is it okay to not enjoy big pulls?

So I've been practicing drk and decided to start trying out bigger pulls. The first try was a disaster. My healer couldn't keep up and became hostile and left along with the rest of my group shattering my confidence. I tried again and did better the second time and got a nice pep talk from my second group.

However despite getting better at bigger pulls I just can't say I enjoy them. Their honestly stressful and not fun at all. I know the a big part of tanking is setting the pace of the dungeon and every dps and their mother wants to rush a dungeon but honestly I don't.

I guess I'm looking for some advice from the more veteran tanks.

You aren't enjoying it as you are trying to go all in. Explain to the party that you are not comfortable with big pulls but you will gradually keep pulling bigger. This doesn't mean pull tiny packs of 3 etc but start grabbing 6 and build up.

It comes down to the situation your in every dungeon. Are you confident in your knowledge of the dungeon? Do you know what's gunna hit you super hard? When should i pop my cooldowns? Is my gear up to par? What's the make up of the dps? Are you confident in your healer?

The first bunch of questions come down to yourself, most of which comes from experience (tanking in general and dungeon memorisation) and knowledge of your toolkit. The other questions only get answered as you go along as you have to judge how fast to mobs are going down/healer keeping you up. If your in a group of randoms, just straight up ask if small/large pulls are ok (again depending on your confidence). You'd be surprised how much respect you get for just communicating with your group.

Lastly, don't let salty players get you down. We're all supposed to be working to the same goal after all.

It takes time to be comfortable at a higher lvl. Pulling small is fine and all. I would also guess that in your datacenter that the players aren't dpsing well enough. You will run out of CD if your party has low dps to kill all the adds. For me though, i tend to go all out first. Then tone it down if i must depending on how good the group is. The size of pull is from start to end of the wall but that's also because i have high ilvl and it does help quite a bit.

When you're just starting out no one is going to expect you to do big pulls, but you are constantly getting higher level/item level, the monsters aren't, so if you're doing the same 3 mob pull at i320 you were doing at i90 in amdapor keep, have you really improved as a tank since then? Yes you're synced but even when synced your stats still increase with higher ilvl.

Basically, if you're not comfortable with big pulls, don't do them, but keep in mind the wasted potential of hp and mitigation you have.

You are the tank and you get to decide the pace of the run. You may risk getting kicked by elitists, sure.
It's okay not to like them and it's okay not to do them.

It's what you should be striving towards, if you're a decent ilvl and you're only pulling groups one at a time it's a bit like the tank equivalent of a DPS who won't AoE.

That said, no one is born knowing how to tank in an MMO. Don't take it too hard if you mess up a few times, in my experience most people will be alright about it.

A cautious tank eager to learn, even at a slow pace, is still better than a thoughtless one pulling everything wall-to-wall with low ilvl gear and no clue how to actually hold all the stuff he pulled D:

As people have already stated, no one is born with the inate ability to be a good, experienced tank, so it's something you should work toward rather than feel pressured into.

I don't main tank, so sorry if I'm sticking my nose into something that I probably am not all that experienced in - but when I'm using tanks (especially in leveling dungeons) I think it's more important to focus on keeping hate and learning how to use your cooldowns/skills/abilities than jumping straight to huge pulls that are likely to get everyone killed due to my own inexperience (in leveling dungeons, due to EVERYONE'S inexperience :P )

Just try to have fun, if you're finding it more pressuring and stressful than fun... then you're probably not doing it the way that's best suited to you, in which case you should try to talk to your team and explain why you'd rather do small pulls.

It's fine to not enjoy them, it's not fine to stop doing them because of that. Big pulls are the default in all level 50, 60 and 70 dungeons, and a bunch of dungeons like Dzemael Darkhold, The Vault, and the 61-67 dungeons. You should consider a different role if you don't like that.

Oh no, the run takes 10 minutes longer. What a tragedy.
