I use prospect but the minimap doesnt show any mineral deposit sites. do i have the right pickaxe equipped?
Your pickaxe won't prevent you from equipping other gear pieces, so if it is, it's a bug.
As for your second question, when you have the pickaxe on and you're a miner, make sure you have the Prospect buff on. Then you can use Lay of the Land to point you towards where a node is. Look in your gathering log to see zones. There are some nodes right outside the gate to Ul'dah in Western Thanalan, so try going there.
You won't see rocky outcrops, another kind of gathering node, until I think it's level 10, when you unlock your sledgehammer offhand.
awesome elo thanks for the advice i hope the bug fixes itself. lol. i think i get it ill b around![]()
NP. Make sure that the gear you're trying to equip isn't restricted to Disciples of War/Magic and is listed as either All Classes or Disciples of the Land. And happy gathering!

hey bro im confused man. so h/o lemme see. all i have is disciples of war gear... uh. where do i get all classes gear or where gear for disciples of the land bro? sorry im lost man.
You can get gear for your Disciple of the Hand/Land classes from either the market board, or from vendors (or craft it, if you have access to the materials and the required levels). For example, the NPC Domitien with the tag <Independant Tailor> in Old Gridania's market area will sell you gathering gear. His low level stock seems to have stats for both on it, but for a gathering class, you'll want pieces with Gathering and Perception.
ok i gotcha thx for the tips ill head back here if i have any moar questions thx bro i owe ya
There are several types of gear that will (at least at lower levels) be equippable by all classes. As a Disciple of the Land (gathering class), you'll want ones that boost the Gathering, Perception, or GP (Gathering Points) stats. Disciples of the Hand (crafting classes) use the Craftsmanship, Control, and CP (Crafting Points) stats. Occasionally, you'll find pieces that combine those, for instance raising both control and perception, so useful to both crafters and gatherers. But they never mix crafting/gathering stats with combat related stats (other than rather minimal Defense).
At low levels, most Disciples of Magic gear is also equippable by all classes, but identified by the fact that it boosts Intelligence and Mind as well as general combat related stats like Vitality.
(And then there is vanity gear, that doesn't boost any stats to speak of, but exists just for use in glamour or while just hanging around / goofing off. That's for All Classes as well.)
At level 1, you could get away with using any "All Classes" gear for gathering, but you'll want something with the appropriate stats before you get more than just a few levels up. (There is a set of level 1 armour that's specifically for Disciples of the Land, but with how fast you out-level that and how low the stats are anyway at that level, lots of players just use something generic, like their racial starting gear, until they get to the next set at levels 5 and 6.)
