    Malwarebytes Causing Crashes?

The past few weeks I've been having what seemed like gpu/driver related crashes (black screen, display driver error in eventlog, fan revving up to 100% and a few directx game errors) when playing FF14. Sometimes it would recover on its own but most of the time it would require a hard reset. I tried malware/virus scans, file/chkdsk scan, gpu updates/rollbacks with ddu, hardware test, cleaning out and reseating components and even reinstalling windows with the reset wipe option but nothing worked. When my computer was struggling to start I thought for sure my gpu was dying and this seemed confirmed when I put in an old amd card. I was able to run final fantasy on a Radeon HD 6870 for over and hour with no issues. Unfortunately when I got my new gtx 1060 and ran the game it crashed with the same error after less then 5 minutes. I was just about to perform another windows refresh when I realized the only thing that had been consistent is that I was running malwarebytes active monitoring. After uninstalling it and restarting I was able to run the game without crashing.

This might just be a coincidence and I'm going to have to do more testing but has anyone else had this issue? If you are running malwarebytes try uninstalling, see if it helps with crashes and post your finding in this thread. I'm really hoping this isn't related to another piece of hardware on my system.

    Update

It wasn't malwarebytes, my gpu crashed later that day while opening chrome. I performed a hardware test this time with advance memory testing, everything passed. So I ended up doing another reset and file purge. Only installed ff14, chrome and default windows drivers, the game ran without crashing. Updated the drivers and performed a few windows tweaks and it's running smoothly. No clue what was the original cause of the problem.
