    Dungeon access

    Greetings everyone.

SO i have my character at level 18, my capital city is Ul'dah and i don't know when or how i will have access to my first dungeon.
Seems that first dungeon is around level 15 so i'm kinda concerned that i'm leaving things behind.

Anyone could help me with this?

So long as you continue to follow the MSQ (Main Story Quests), you get your access to dungeons. Those golden looking bubbles above a NPCs head are indicators that a quest is avaliable.

Don't worry, you won't leave anything behind if you tackle any quest icons you can find.

    Relax and have fun ^^

Preface: MSQ stands for Main Story Quests.

You'll unlock almost every dungeon in the game just by following the MSQ (except for a few exceptions and Hardmode dungeons). If you want to ensure you're not missing out on any content, do any quests you see that are either part of the MSQ or are quests with the Feature icon.

Refer here for a simple list of quest icons: https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/D...ns#Quest_Icons

In the above link, take a look at Main and Feature quest icons. If you do any of the quests you see with either icon, you'll unlock everything.

As a Gladiator, you'll be assigned the role of Tank.

It will be your job to be sure all enemies are attacking you and no one else. So you will be using all the tools at your disposal to do so, all the while using your defensive abilities to reduce the amount of damage you take.

The Tank Role part of the forums here are a great source of information to learn a bit about your role before you get your feet wet, so browse around whenever you can xD

As for the Novice Network, if I remember right, it should give you the option to join it when you first start the game (I know things have changed, so if this is incorrect, I am sure someone will correct me xD) and you should have access to a linkshell, which is a chat room of sorts. There, Mentors may be able help you with any questions you may have.

If your not in the Novice Network, you can find a Mentor (any player with crown next to their name) and ask them to invite you. ^^

Hopefully our advice has been helpful to get you on your way!

I really wouldn't suggest joining the novice network though. The idea is nice but the chat itself is full of unrelated spam, drama, and sometimes people just give false information for shits and giggles.

I am no Mentor, so I am not sure on how it is inside said Novice Network. Simply doing my part to help out with questions.

However, I am sure not all Mentors are trolls. I WOULD LIKE to believe there are good ones out there willing and able to help out. Plus even then, finding other new players to relate to/party with them could also be a boon to their experience as well.

To join the novice network, a mentor has to invite you. If you /shout in a city politely asking for an invitation, someone will likely send one.

Despite people who would try to deprive you of what is potentially a great tool for quick access to information, there are mentors who answer game questions as soon as they see them. It's definitely a good idea to join. If you join and find that you happen to be on a server where the NN is spammier or more political than most, set your chat filters so that novice only prints to one of the tabs you don't look at often, so that you can free yourself of the spam but still be able to switch to that tab if you have a question that needs a prompt or current response.

I'm not sure what you mean by profession, but FFXIV is a game that allows your character to freely change your class. This means one character can have levels in all classes, and your stats change appropriately depending on your job. To change your job, you simply have to equip the appropriate weapon/main-hand of the job.

For crafting and gathering, it is purely optional.
However, if you are interested in crafting, blacksmith and armorer can be used to help provide gear while you level and to repair.

You may even want to level the classes up to 60 so you can repair gear in the middle of the dungeon as needed (nothing sucks more than having your gear break and being forced to leave the instance in order to repair it; especially in the case of armor and weapons). Goldsmith is a third class you can take to repair and create accessories for all jobs (it is usually less of a problem if you lose an accessory).

And if you decide to pursue blacksmith, armorer, or goldsmith, then miner is the obvious choice for the gathering class.

On the topic of crafting, if you're doing any crafting it's likely in your best interest to level ALL crafters and gatherers. You'll need a wide number of secondary skills from leveling up other crafters, and a lot of the ingredients you'll need will be crafted by other crafters (Lumber, cloth, leather, etc.)
