[Suggestion] Allow players with the Mentor status to bypass the chat restrictions!

I already posted this in another thread but I figured I'd go ahead and make a separate thread for it for the sake of more visibility. It is my humble, firm belief that the chat restrictions in The Feast are problematic. There's been a huge amount of feedback in other threads as to why, exactly, that is a fairly common belief so in the interest of efficiency and ease of reading I won't go into that here.

Now, the Mentor system was introduced to encourage players to teach those with less knowledge about the game. There's even an option for Mentors to flag themselves as specifically being focused on PvP. That does not mean that players who are unfamiliar with PvP are going to actively seek out PvP flagged mentors for advice.

So, a solid compromise would be to allow players who are flagged as Mentors to communicate without restrictions in PvP. There's a good chance some of them may ver well be 'toxic' which is apparently the development team's concern and reasoning for implementing the restriction in the first place.

Yet simply stripping the Mentor status from players proven to be 'toxic' would be a solid workaround. It'd act as an incentive for Mentor players to keep calm, constructive and indulge in good sportsmanship. I do not think that the Mentor status should be denied to a player indefinitely - especially when it is tied to achievements and in-game rewards. A three month ban on being a Mentor would suffice, I feel. Stacking, perhaps, if there are further reports once the ban is lifted.

No. This gives mentors a great advantage.

Maybe if getting mentor status meant something. You become a mentor by doing purely PvE things. This means that avid PvPers may not have it whilst people who never touch PvP do.

On the other hand, it might be good to bring back full chat functions for custom matches and random 4 vs 4 practice matches, outside of ranked matches, as it would allow for players to discuss and develop deeper strategies.
In the light of this, it's kinda moot to allow mentors to bypass the chat restriction. You can have everyone bypass it outside of ranked, why settle for less? Also note that mentioning "Random 4 vs 4 practice matches" separate from custom matches implies such a mode is on the way.

The chances that they'll allow chat ever again in Ranked matches is slim to none. Too many fall for the pretense of "serious competition" it purports to offer, take it way too serious and tilt over it, which is the reason the restriction exists in the first place. The best you can hope is that the premade Ranked option they're working on will allow the team to chat, but solo queue will most likely never have it again - not mentors nor anyone else.

Except it should be brought back for everyone...then again, it's pretty easy for everyone to get mentor status...maybe this idea isn't so bad after all...

The only way I'd approve of this was if PVP mentors required Diamond or platinum or a certain number of matches won/played, as was said when this suggestion was first said in another thread. Otherwise it's pretty pointless.

In it's current standard being a mentor means nothing.

This pretty much sums it up. Being able to talk in PvP with PvE qualifications doesn't help anything. Having a "Mentor" status (can be called something else) exclusive to The Feast and separate from the current Mentor status would be the best way to go.

As I mentioned in the other thread, that would give people who meet qualifications--people with experience--the ability to talk and give advice or plans; as well as having the mods/admins/whatever monitor a smaller sample of people for bad behavior.
I like Cynric's notion of having the players win/play a certain number of matches as well in order to get benefits.

-Of course, assuming they plan on taking that route.

No. PvP mentor is a joke. You can't even become a mentor by PvPing, you have to do an insane amount of PvE dungeons just to unlock it, pvp matches don't even count.

I have everything but the dungeon experience to become mentor, that is because I hate dungeons and love pvp. I think this is a silly solution anyway. I can mentor on losing in the Gold Saucer though.

You would be giving and unfair advantage to the team with the Mentor IF something like this actually was implemented. The mentor could talk strategy with his team while the other team is forced to use quick chat. That does not mean that the Mentor team is an automatic win since it all boils down to skill, but you're giving the team a +1 already with unrestricted chat. Both teams need to be on an even playing field.

As others have mentioned, Mentor status comes from completing a vast amount of PVE criteria. That does not translate into PVP since it is a different monster compared to PVE.
