Confess, I bought it yesterday as soon as I heard it was available, and I've been looking at all the fine details. Have you noticed how the colors are a roiling, shifting wonder of blacks, greys, deep blues, deep violets?

I don't know how the colorization works here, but I would imagine, applying a dye, would destroy that fine fine detail, and you'd end up with a plain, perhaps slightly metallic, solid color?

Just mentioning in passing. I don't think it would look nearly as good, dyed. Or, would no longer have the same achieved effect.

If it's just the overall style you like - the cut, the drape, the flounce-ability - then certainly, dyeing would be desirable!

I've always been in the camp of Equal Glamour options for both genders. That said, I don't really see a male version of the Edda Outfit. Not unless you want to dress like Ciel from Black Butler, and really, that'd more or less be taking the level 50 Weaver set, removing the more weaver-elements of it, and adding a version of the Songbird outfits' hat that comes with an eyepatch.

I'd wear that if they managed to sufficiently set it apart from the Butler set. And kept the texture

An elegant coat with the same detailing and accessories as the female version would be the proper male equivalent of this sort of style. Something along these lines:

They could reuse the Butler's jacket model as the base and just add a fuller 'skirt/tail' and a bit of frill to match the female version. Ultimately you end up something similar to the High House Justaucorps, but more 'fitted'.

They wouldn't even have to give us unique pants to go with it; it's not like we have a dearth of more-or-less-the-same 'slacks' models we could pair it with (or, more likely, glossy black short-shorts in my case), and SE's perfectly comfortable with the gentlemen going pantsless anyway, as a previous Halloween event showed us.

I am officially ok with them showering us with frilly period shirts and dress coats like the one pictured. I love the Justaucorps.

Really wish you could get rid of the eye-patch with the /visor option

My concern is that in the recent Live Letter they're already discussing adding more swimsuits in the context of female characters and also bringing up Lyse's outfit without mentioning Hien's outfit as an equivalent. Adding Hien's outfit would provide male characters with an exclusive glamour, a pretty great hairstyle and if they're sensible they could add his facial hair as an option as well. My concern is that much like Aymeric's outfit they'll make Hien's hairstyle available to female characters which will, in turn, further make the amount of options unfairly slanted towards female characters. Unlocking the Minfilia hair for male characters isn't a good solution, either - because that just screws over those of us who want to play men who look and act like men.

I don't think unlocking Minfilia's hair is a solution to the overall problem, but in a game where men have hardly any updo hairstyles at all it's at least another option (and it's way less feminine than that weird 'grandmother' hairstyle I'll never use). Aymeric's hair doesn't exactly scream 'classically feminine' yet a lot of people still wanted to use it on their female characters, and reciprocation is important if we're ever going to be treated equally.

What is a solution, is making genuine male-only equivalents for all of the items we lost out on or at least unlocking the irrelevant accessories which don't matter, and most importantly not continuing to release sets for only one half of the audience in future. Mog Station or otherwise. Especially when they're openly given priority over the longstanding issue.

If they'd released a male-only costume at the same time, this thread would be 1/10th of its current length and mostly feature fun group screenshots and discussion about dyes. That would have been nice. It's not even hard to design male-only items; I'd gladly take some variants on near-topless looks like the South Seas Talisman as alternatives to them figuring the Bridesmaid's Dress out if they want to be peculiar about certain dresses.

I'm scared for Hien because I just know we'll end up with one garment and a unisex hairstyle with no beard while the ladies somehow get two different Lyse SB costumes, a locked hairstyle and Krile's coat as a bonus. Whoever signs off the workload for the modelling team is utterly obsessed with cute girls and evidently cannot understand why anyone out there would ever play as a guy.

To be fair Krile's coat and both of Lyse's outfits would work on male characters with pretty minimal alternations. I think Lyses's gears would look a little odd but I think they would be fine to be honest so maybe they'll just cut down on the gender locks...
