    Why you love playing healer

    Not a question. A thread to pop in anytime you want to state why you love playing this role. Both career and non-career healers are welcome, of course! However, I do like to see my show of hands to those who do main the role as it definitely takes a certain kind of personality and tolerance to choose to use it for all/most content.

    No need to limit yourself to one post, come in anytime you are feeling good about making this choice. Post an experience, a thought, aspirations, impressionable healers whether NPC or player, arms and battle gear. Your mind is the limit.

    Because as a scholar, when things start going south, I can be an absolute GOD and carry everyone's pathetic bodies through.

    More or less this. I have so many tools at my disposal to either help speed things up with DPS, or salvage complete trainwrecks if need be.

    Plus, SCH is a darn busy job. I love having things to press all the time.

    Because it's less boring than DPS that have routines and always do the same thing. Playing a healer is all about sitution and reactivity.

    And also that

    And of course that one

This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.

    One thing I can say is that the role is a natural fit for me as I tend to selflessly care for others, and put their needs above my own. I'm not a big fan of being up close and personal with a mob, and rather be at a safe distance and tending the wounded while unleashing my own wrath upon the opposition. It is by far the most rewarding and the role I am the most skilled at.

    Needless to say, I am a career healer, and this will never change. My sole aspiration is not to be the best healer to ever play the game, but to be a better healer than I was yesterday. My favorite content is by far 4-man since it puts all healing responsibility on my shoulders, and I clash with like-minded healers as WHM in full parties, so I usually play as SCH when I know I will be the OH. I am perfectly ok with this as I love causing butt loads of damage while not accruing a whole lot of hate. DoTs are my specialty

    I have yet to do relevant raids. I admit, I am a bit intimidated, but I know the time will come because I always like to put my abilities to the test as I get more experience, and my character gets stronger. Plus, those are fights are just so memorable. The huge bonus they provide isn't only in-game.

    Hopefully, someday they will also do some kind of EX 4-man content. I would really love for my abilities to be tested this way. I just started HW and my FC keeps telling me to look forward to The Vault so can't wait to get there!

    I guess "technically," I'm a career healer? This is the only game where I didn't take a healer role as my main, actually. I couldn't deal with the anxiety, there seems to be a lot of pressure put on heals from the community.

    I like supporting the team. If I'm in a crap party, it's satisfying when I meet the challenge and get everyone through alive anyway (although admittedly, I've only taken my WHM into 4-man dungeons at this point). Hell, some of the most fun I've had is when healer dies or AFKs, and I have to throw DPS out the window to pull the party back together.

    But mostly I enjoy playing healer when my sis tanks since we've done the tank/healer duo thing since we were little kiddies. It's more fun when we can play in the same room and bicker at each other.

    Also I don't really trust other healers now. XD I've watched too many of them (maybe half?) get caught up with DPSing and let the tank die. @_@; And then the mobs all come for me. T_T

    Healers pushing their limits will go through this, and unfortunately take their tanks with them... and the rest of the party. It is honestly part of the learning process for healers, much in the same way a tank learns exactly how much they can take without overwhelming their healer. I continuously make this mistake in groups. Sometimes I underestimate the tank and expect them to use a CD, he doesn't, my cure doesn't get off in time and down he goes. Other times, the tank literally saves my ass by using their CDs effectively. Simply put is sometimes my focus is too much on healing, and sometimes it is too much on DPSing, which reduces optimization.

    I love that challenge though, and I always apologize to my party when I know I need to put more focus on healing.

For sure, I encourage if they're learning (even vets make mistakes once-in-a-while), I'm usually the first to bitchsmack people that get pissy with our healers (I've been yelled at enough myself to know how horrible it feels). But it's pretty obvious because a mistake like that is usually followed by "sorry my bad," but when my sis is using cooldowns and Clemencying herself for 80% of the dungeon and she still dies multiple times, you can't really excuse that, lol (... I wish I was exaggerating, This is a pretty common situation: "Oohkay, I've used all my cooldowns. my MP is gone. Healer is dancing in the corner. I have 800hp and Hallowed Ground ends in 2 seconds.Mandar you better get titan out. Like now."). Hell, I've lost a few tanks while trying to practice the Cleric Stance dance (which I still suck at, but one day!! I will master it), but it was never that bad even when I first started. D: Like really, I should've brought my under-geared SCH, at least then physic would do something for me. -_-;

    Dunno, maybe we've just had a very unlucky, month-long run of troll healers lol.

    edit: to be fair, I don't think these are actually healers we are getting. I think they're probably DPS that power leveled in PotD and don't really care about healing. It's still frustrating though, and unfortunately has made me skeptical of every healer we get in dungeons now. ^^;
