Exp gain question

Hi all,

I have a question that I haven't been able to find an answer to regarding leveling and exp gain.


I play FFXIV with my boyfriend, I am a DRG and he is a WM.

On our jobs we level, do duties and story quests together and we've discovered that even if we're doing the same leveling tasks together I pull ahead with exp and overtake his exp by large amounts, as a result I am leveling a lot sooner than him and We'd like to know why.

We play as a party, we both eat food (however I eat 2 at a time to get an hour buff opposed to one), We both do the same quests and don't do any exp gaining activities without eachother.

I was thinking that it might have something to do with the gods that we choose on Character Creation or our characters birth date's that might affect the rest buffs you get. I also thought it might be just because of our different jobs so we scale or gain exp at a different rate but I don't have an answer...

Any advice would be appreciated!

The most likely thing here is if you two are running roulettes. If you are there is a very good chance you are getting an Adventurer in Need bonus for being a healer as it often changes between Healer and Tank. It is almost never for DPS because there are so many.

If you have a job at 70, you get extra exp. There 'might' be exp difference between jobs, but I'm not sure.

We do the roulette's together. Hmm this may be a contributing factor. However I am the DPS and I am ahead of my BF who is the healer.

You don't need a job at 70. You get the armoury exp bonus on any job that is lower level than your highest level job.

Bear in mind, this is your highest level COMBAT job. Crafting and Gathering jobs do not provide the armory bonus.

The next time you party with your boyfriend, take a look at your exp bars. If the portion of the bar indicating to-next-level is BLUE, that means you still have rested exp remaining. If you've got a lot of blue left in your bar, and your boyfriend has hardly any, that might explain why you're leveling much faster.

Additionally: Rested exp is great. Be sure that both you and your boyfriend ALWAYS log off for the day in a Sanctuary. You can tell you're in a Sanctuary by the little moon symbol by your exp bar. Sanctuaries exist in any town that has a large Aethercite - so any teleport destination. Residential housing districts are also Sanctuaries. Basically, teleport ANYWHERE, and it will put you in a Sanctuary.

It don't need a job at 70 for the exp bonus, just another job higher than the current job.

Maybe it's your rested exp? It's the blue part of your exp bar which you gain through staying inside sanctuaries, even after logging out. Basically it gives you more exp in exchange for it.

Maybe I'll have to try and compare the rested exp. Does the amount differ for different people?

If you mean for different races/jobs then I don't think so. It pretty much depends on how long has someone stayed inside a sanctuary, but I believe there's a limit to how much you can get. Not sure what factors the limit however.
