    Raubahns Arm

I had a strange thought about Raubahn and his arm.

A couple points to consider that made me question something.
In ARR we have the GSM class quests which delve into Mammets and their limited sentience or at least semi-intelligence.
In ARR and HW we have Relics that attain some measure of intelligence and the ability to communicate with their wielder.
In SB we get to see Magitek mutating and/or enhancing soldiers.
Cid and Nero and the Scions all seem to be pushing for better ways to enhance the quality of life and increase the technical capabilities of Eorzean citizens; perhaps with a byproduct of being able to fight better.

All of this seems to beg the question of limb replacements. All of the parts seem to be in place for either a mechanical, cybernetic or biological replacement. As Raubahn is a key figure in the game I wonder if this is something that could be considered likely or even possible?

Is this something Raubahn would consider?

Of course, once that door is open it raises further questions. In the fight against Garlemald, how far would the Eorzean Alliance take such a capability? One could make the argument that we'd need it to fight Garlemald on a more even footing given that Garlemald is already pursuiing enhanced soldiers. Which also begs the question, how far is too far when fighting your enemies? I wonder if the writers are setting up SB to tackle those questions.

I ask the Devs about this every chance I get! Give Raubahn a cyberarm!

They totally have the technology to do it. The Illuminati had it back in Heavensward and Hypertuned Grynewaht makes it abundantly clear the Empire has the technology too. (Where they get immunosuppressives for it I don't know, but... most uses of cybernetics gloss over that issue.)

As amusing as it would be, a cyberarm is not likely something Raubahn would buy into, though.

I actually wonder if it's possible to regrow an arm or any body part with magic, given how malleable the flesh bodies of Eorzea seem to be, regarding aether. I'd like to think that it is, since we don't seem to ever see anybody else missing a body part, but who knows?

It's not. Magic is not a miracle cure-all in this universe and has its limits.

I'm eager for the day that Raubahn gets the Mk. VII 84RR-3T combination concussion/repeater arm from Cid.

Should happen right around the time Raubahn reveals his last name to be "Wallace."

On the stream today, Koji listed "cybernetic arms" under "the good technology Garlemald has."

Time to start shouting "RAUBOT CONFIRMED."

Raubot? ... Raubaht? ... We'll have to decide on a spelling.

We already knew the Empire has cybernetics! Magitek cybernetics! What little info we have on Hypertuned Grynewaht makes it abundantly clear.

    A few questions remain, however.
-Will Raubahn get a cyberarm? (Probably not.)
-Will Raubahn's last name be revealed to be "Wallace" or "Jensen?" (Probably the former, if anything.)
-Does the Empire actually have the immunosuppressive drugs necessary to use cybernetic implants over a long period of time?

    Now I bet Varis is a cyborg. It's why he's heartless! (/sarcasm)

The real question is: Did he ask for this?

It is known that cybernetics exist on Hydaelyn; both the Illuminati and the Garleans have access to them. I do not believe Raubahn would consider getting a cyberarm given the opportunity, but having played Deus Ex: Human Revolution as extensively as I have, I just have to ask about it all the time.

Tangential to this topic, and I've asked this question lots of times on other forums (so apologies if you've already heard this one): what happened to Raubahn's original arm?

Was it thrown out with the trash during the clean-up? Was it buried with full military honours? Was it confiscated by Lolorito, who bronzed it and now displays it with smugness on his trophy shelf? Was it requisitioned by the Thaumaturges' Guild, who, in collaboration with the Alchemists and Goldsmiths, reanimated it to scuttle around like a certain Addams Family pet?

(I am not responsible for that last bit of speculation. You know who you are.)
