Final Fantasy XIV dungeons and raids

    Greetings everyone.

So i was asking around on steam forums about raids and dungeon tactics, i found surprising that many people there replied that dungeons and raids in this game don't require any tactics or that they don't have any complexity.

Is this true? Personally and knowing SE history with Final Fantasy series i find it hard to believe that they wouldn't introduce any kind of difficulty into this game.

Can you clarify me on this please?

    Thank you all in advance.

Earlier dungeons, particularly those that had a 1.0 form, have dead ends, or large rooms where you can choose which packs of mobs you want to engage, or alternate routes to the same destination.

A vast majority of the dungeons added since 2.0 follow the format of (trash>trash>boss)x3, funneling the party down a defined track. On the one hand, the format makes dungeons much more accessible to new players and faster to run than the older (longer and less direct) dungeons. On the other hand, the success at disguising the linearity through creative use of environment is not always consistent. Sometimes the dungeons are quite obvious and unappologetic in forcing you in one direction.

As for bosses, whether they be in dungeons or raids, each boss has a hard scripted attack sequence. It's not that they lack complexity, per se, but once you've committed each boss's rotation to memory, you can plan your own rotation and formation around it, trivializing some mechanics.

This is not to say that every boss is just super easy, and indeed some may have unforgiving or confusing mechanics, or mechanics that can be a pain to coordinate in a party of strangers. But after doing a fight enough times, you should start seeing the patterns and figuring out how to deal with them.

Going into a fight with a group of people who all know it, sure, everyone could prolly handle the fight without discussing tactics or gathering in the same voice server. But when you hear that raids don't require tactics or raids don't have any complexity, it definitely does not mean that anyone can just go into every fight blind and expect a guaranteed win. Going in to extreme or savage content blind, while fun if you're into figuring out mechanics and tactics on your own, should come with expectations of death (and is best done with a group of seven other people who enjoy the opportunity to die properly to mechanics before being told how to deal with them).

People tend to make light of difficult content to seem better at the game then they actually are, so don't listen to the replies you got from those other forums saying the dungeons/raids are simple or too easy.

Rongway has it right (name irony!): the dungeons tend to be extremely linear in pathing; but the bosses are like any other boss in any other game (especially MMORPGs) - they're scripted fights with scripted mechanics - which means most of the difficulty in a boss is frontloaded and can be found in discovering, memorizing, and carrying out the various mechanics. Once you and your entire group has those down, of course, bosses become trivial. That's just the nature of MMORPG bosses.

So, no, the dungeons and raids are not simple or foolproof. They're the approximate level of difficulty you find in other comparable MMORPGs out there.

In most boss fights if you completely ignore tactics(for instance, if you closed your eyes and just performed your rotations perfectly), you are likely to wind up dead(or at the very least cause your group to have a real hard time). If your group as a whole ignores them you will fail many many fights over and over until you learn(or give up). These things might be straightforward(dont stare at the medusa during her turn-you-to-stone attack for instance), but that doesnt mean they arent there. And if you want to see an example of a complex fight, there are some really nice guides on youtube you could watch to see whats out there before you actually get to that type of content.
