I really love Dark Knight Haseo's design for the new episode.
Imagine getting that as a glamour for FFXIV DRKs.

I remember playing the GU trilogy. I really enjoyed that game and I can't wait for the remaster and the new 4th volume. I wouldn't mind a GU event.
We don't have even SE cross play like NieR, FFXV, or even Tactics (well, we can count the Return to Ivalice I guess), I don't think we will have from other devs (aside Yo-kai).
And I think we will don't have any cross event soon. I really want a event like those on Gatcha type games (Mobius FF or Exvius FF for example), where we have trials or dungeons based on that event. (THe fight with Engels on Exvius for example).
But, seeing at the Garo event, which takes them 1 year to do.... well, I guess every event will be few level 15 sidequest or FATE grinding. Also, gatcha games core are this events, MMO is not.
As much as I love .hack, I doubt we'll see a crossover, and definitely not anytime soon - I'd expect something with FFXV before that.
I'm super excited for this release, though. I enjoyed the story of both games, but I feel G.U. really improved on some of the core mechanics of IMOQ. The original 4 games felt really repetitive to me, and I got discouraged when I spent an hour going through a dungeon in Q, just to die to the boss.. really didn't feel like rerunning the dungeon right then. G.U. had more variable dungeons, at least.

My biggest beefs with G.U. were all tied into the fact that... It was a game, and it felt very much designed to showcase the game elements if that makes any sense.
With the original game, the combat wasn't especially good, but it was just a tool to get you through things. With G.U., they improved the combat, but it seemed they really, REALLY wanted to make sure you focused on their shiny new combat, so they introduced the traditional RPG encounter thing where engaging an enemy locks you into a separate mode/view, gives you an intro/dialogue, and you have to use an item if you want to escape. Rather than enemies feeling like MOBs in an MMO that you could kill or kite, it felt like the game was just screaming 'COMBAT MODE!' every chance it could.
Then there are the spots where you trudged through a 'dungeon' that just felt like filler to allow them to throw in another AIDA encounter because, hey, you just gotta get some mileage out of that Avatar battle system, right? Not to mention how samey the dungeons felt. IMOQ had this issue as well, but at least the aesthetic variance and the pacing helped there. The fields and dungeons in G.U. honestly felt like a step back in some respects.
And then of course, there is the big one... THE ARENA!
Almost every conflict in the game gets reduced to, "We'll settle this in the arena!" PKers that should have no reason to want a fair fight? ARENA! Plot-important dude that offends you slightly? ARENA (and massive character derailment)!
Look, Cyberconnect... I get it; you created a mock-PVP system for your mock-MMO. Stop trying to put a spotlight on it.
Like I said before. It really felt like they created a bunch of... 'nifty'... gameplay systems and wanted you to focus on those, so they formed the story in such a way that they would be the focus. And that just made the whole thing unpalatable to me.
Especially after the bad taste Roots left (26 episodes of "Ovan... He's so... mysterious.")
My memory of IMOQ was : run around a huge field map (perhaps with grinding), then through a huge dungeon.. for every map
Of G.U. : either field or dungeon grind, but not both
That alone helped mix it up a bit for me.
...realllly considering rewatching anime and replaying IMOQ now to prepare.. Sucks that the PS2 looks so crappy on my HD TV, but I still do have a small CRT..
Hope they have a cross over event it be fun and might get new glamour's.
