I think they are checking out the market, looking if people are interested in the .hack series. Depending on the responses from the players and sales, CyberConnect2 might create a new .hack game for the PS4 and PC. Since they are done with the Naruto games and SE has taken over the remake of FF7 (CyberConnects2 was supposed to make the remake of FF7), I think they will focus on orignal IP again and create a new .hack game.

In that case, even though I dislike GU, I hope the game does well.

I loved the story for the original games, but the dungeons and combat were painful to me. I liked how fluid the class change system was in GU

I didn't quite mind the original battle system, but it did get painful toward the later games. I enjoyed IMOQ's story very much. I read the novels too. They made Kite seem like a different person compared to his video game counterpart. Granted the story was told from BlackRose's POV. GU's battle system was definitely a step up from IMOQ, but the story was blehhh. I really dislike Haseo as a character.

I don't know if they are or not, actually. It would be nice though. One would have thought that they would have started with the originals first. Why they went with GU is beyond me. If there's plans for IMOQ in the future, then I would gladly wait. For now though I don't think anyone really knows, but it's disheartening at the very least to see what their priority apparently was.

I would love a .hack// crossover but I doubt we will get it, usually the ones we ask for are not the ones we receive.

If they're able to pull it off then it would be cool, but the only non-SE crossover we've had was Yokai Watch and that was only because friends with the producer of the game. Honestly I think the chances are pretty slim that we'll get another crossover with a non-SE game, especially since there were some players that hated it because the event "broke their immersion."

If we do get a crossover though it would be pretty weird and it probably wouldn't be anything deeper than the Lightning Returns event where Haseo finds himself magically inserted into the world of FFXIV and gameplay with him would be tied to FATEs where you would fight bugged enemies. Rewards would also probably be just Weapon Skins (Epitaph Weapon Skins, XD) along with more iconic skins such as the Chainsaw Sword and Haseo's starting daggers.

I think the FFXIV side of the PSO2 collaboration is still on the table, but it's been long enough that they may just hope the people that actually wanted that will forget. >_>

If this were able to happen even by a slim chance, it would only be for glamour items and probably make near to no mention of the series/franchise whatsoever (can't even have characters from the games appear, since that would imply FFXIV's world itself is just a game to a completely different franchise).

It's a bit more than that. They are adding many QoLs to the games and making the changes, that each game brought, the same across all 3 + 1.

I can't help but wonder how many other collabs they already have on the backburner when they still don't have plans for a PSO2 collab after nearly a year.

I'm still salty about PSO2 so I'm ok with the no Collab with them....

Wish they remaked the first 4 games, the story was good, but I did not like the battle system.
