    Request: In-game flavor text for Abilities/Spells/Limit Breaks

    It would be great if there was sort of an Encyclopedia within the game, that as you level jobs, all skills/spells that you learn or unlock get descriptions similar to these above. This menu could be accessed at any time and would allow players on any job to double check descriptions and tooltips of classes they've unlocked. In addition to allowing you to read the tooltips, there could be descriptions/flavor text like in the FFXIV Lore Book.

    For example, for Dark Knight, we get these gems:

    Dark Force

    By infusing a vast well of aether with her own inner darkness, the dark knight forms arcane barriers of impregnable midnight. The sight of liquid shadow pouring from a sky torn open by this otherwise benevolent technique is commonly described as “unsettling”.

    Hard Slash


    A sweeping slash, followed by a punishing upward slice. The most fundamental attack in a dark knight’s repertoire, this technique originated from a now-antiquated style of knightly combat.

    Unleash

    Releasing his pain and rage upon nearby foes, the dark knight manifests an inky black circle of spikes on the ground around him. All those caught in its thorns are struck by unreasoning terror, and an irresistible need to claw away at its source.

    Living Dead

    This dark art allows the practitioner to continue fighting through the most heinous of injuries, and exhibit an immunity to pain usually attributed to the shambling undead. Though undeniably effective, abandoning one’s corporeal form to negative energy in this manner, however briefly, is an act fraught with mortal peril.

    I've often wondered why we don't get a bit of flavor text with abilities and equipment. It would be cool to learn more about the Lore of the world through descriptions on dungeon dropped gear, in particular.

    Something I've missed ever since City of Heroes is the Description Box feature. Every character in the game, player and NPC and random critter, has a text field where a description can be put. Backstory, physical description, short story, bad jokes, whatever.

    It was entirely optional for players; if you didn't put anything there, the field wouldn't show up, and you'd just get a list of what powers they picked, what achievements they had, and whatever information the player wanted to put public.

    It was an amazing resource for loremongers. Even that weak minion ineffectually tickling you with his knife had a description of his faction, and often his rank in that faction. Major enemies had their own dedicated backstory summaries. Future plot points could be hinted at (CoH players might recall Requiem and the Nictus).

    However, given the apparent squeezing of resources this game already has, I can kind of see why it might be difficult to implement something like that. The (very short) search info for players just isn't enough.

    Also it requires a lot of writing, and I get the odd impression from Stormblood that the writing team already had to cut way too many corners to get the product out in time. (I like reading journal entries of completed missions, and am sad that they've been greatly cut down in SB.)

    That's why it would be better for abilities. I mean we get them for Minions and food/KIs, but abilities would be cool. I want to learn where these spells/skills/abilities come from and how they're manifested.
