As for the Garlean's inability to wield magic is concerned? The lore book states that some Garleans are capable of using it - it wouldn't be unreasonable to handwave it with the Echo or a certain plot element introduced in 4.0 that I won't mention to avoid spoilers.

I'm pretty sure koji fox has stated that the true born/blooded garleans cannot use aether/magicks. The "that some Garleans are capable of using" is because the garleans took over the territory of other nations and assimilate them thus they ARE GARLEANS but not true born ones so they are kinda like a 2nd rate citizen. TLDR: They are like the roman empire.

While I'm not the biggest proponent of Vieraas the next playable race I feel like the issues that you point to with them are genuinely nothing compared to the issues with the race you're suggesting.

Don't get me wrong, I also have nothing against playable Garleans, but you seem to be mixing elements of a class/job with a race. The many issues surrounding equipment alone seem to make this just sort of illogical to me.

I happened upon the Viera thread today, and it was quite interesting.

However, I do not see it being ever possibly implemented in this game, for many reasons I will not individually list. The simplest way I can sum it all up is that, in the end, the "Viera Race" as a "logical construct", is not very valuable, has too many flaws and logical weakpoints, which outweigh any benefits it may claim for this game--

This is a world where you have a legitimate chance of being gutted by a Lalafell wielding a broadaxe. What does Logic have to do with anything?

Sorry didn't mean that to sound rude to players who like the other races. Rather than ugly, I meant the options for the others are subpar and make it more difficult to make a cool character for me. The pieces you can choose from don't jive for most races, unless I am trying to look odd.

Haha, don't worry about it! I personally was only teasing. If we all didn't have personal tastes in fictional races, then there would be no reason to ever stray from human. Different strokes for different folks, ya know?

Nah. Way too much there. And if gar became playable, they would just wear what we have in our regions. Not like they would have armor shipped here. Besides, they are basically just Hyur in looks.

I dont think SE should make a Garlean race and I doubt they will make it for 2 reasons:

1. Garleans look like Hyur, but with a third eye. Garleans in this game either have an Elezen body or a Highlander body. You think people complaining about Au Ra looking Miqo'te was bad, wait till people find out that SE is going to introduce a Hyur Highlander with a 3rd eye for the next expansion, there will be a shitstorm.

2. Locking classes from the Garlean race will turn players away from this race. SE made the Au Ra more cute so they could market the race to the majority of the playerbase, do you honestly think that they would introduce a race that will be avoided by anyone that likes to play: RDM, BLM, SMN, BRD, PLD, DRK, AST, WHM, SCH. Not only can someone not play any healer with this race, two of the 3 tanks is also locked behind the ability to use magick. You could ask them to remake the way the classes will work, so a Garlean can use them, but I doubt SE will spend money and time to adjust classes so 1 race is able to use it and not defy the lore.

I like the Garleans and I understand that some players like to either play as one or RP as one. This is why I think a better suggestion would be to ask SE to give the Hyur's an new face feature, this feature would be the third eye. Adding a third eye should not cost SE alot of money or time (compared to creating another Hyur with different animation, emotes, faces and the whole class adjustment) and will most likely make alot of the roleplayers happy.

It would be easier to add a set of "garlean" faces for cosmetic purposes then implement such a drastic change to the base gameplay system to support a race that is class locked in what it can do.

Not to mention since they are basically Hyur with any hair combination that covers the forehead, and the vast majority of helmets, people would feel cheated out that this is the new race when they could of gotten something they would want to fantasia to...

Like Viera bunny girls or fox/dog/wolf girls/men. (imagine if they implemented a canine race where you could select the ear/tail type based on tribe, and then added some miqo'te options as well to change the type of ears they had)

Mandatory free fantasia required if any major, new options are added to any of the existing races though, IMO.
Or Jandellaine can go get trained in plastic surgery. :-/
