I've seen this vampiric healer idea tossed around a lot, and I've seen them in a lot of games. WoW's shadow priests have been heavily nerfed in terms of healing now though, so there are some concerns with how well it fits into a themepark MMO (especially when the majority of your content is gated by dps checks instead of healing and tank checks).

If you do want a damage-based healer, I'd suggest you look towards the chloromancer from Rift. It's healing class that has some heals that heal based off damage, but it also stores and spends secondary resources that procs off its dots and attacks for burst healing. I think it's a better example of how healing mechanics can be combined with a play style that optimizes damage and maintaining your damage rotation instead of MP conservation.

In general though, I don't see SE making a DD healer until there's a substantial change in how they design trials and raids that can't benefit from a higher dps check as much as they can from a healing and tank check. They did try something new with the Susanoo and Sri Lakshmi trials, but Omega seems more of the same dps check, with a lot of progress still being gated behind damage gear (all the tank materia is still STR, not VIT).
