The ilevel of your gear is very low for level 60. You could farm poetics tomestomes to obtain the ilevel 260 weapon followed by 260 Shire gear obtainable from the the npc in Idyllshire. I did the scholar 60 quest in full 130 gear back when HW first came out and it wasn't difficult, don't think gear is the problem.

Just click on all the NPCs every 30 seconds or so to check for the debuff and esuna appropriately.
