Scholar Level 60 Quest Help

The ilevel of your gear is very low for level 60. You could farm poetics tomestomes to obtain the ilevel 260 weapon followed by 260 Shire gear obtainable from the the npc in Idyllshire. This gear is upgradable to i270 with additional poetics tomestomes and will last you till level 64-65 if you run dungeons. Another option is to buy crafted level 60 gear from the market board, but this gear has lower ilevel (I forget the ilevel, it maybe 240-250). There may also be npcs that sell level 60 gear (again much lower ilevel than the Shire gear); however, I don't remember which city they are in. You could probably do an internet search, or maybe someone in the forums here will pipe up and assist.

I did the scholar 60 quest in full 130 gear back when HW first came out and it wasn't difficult, don't think gear is the problem.

Just click on all the NPCs every 30 seconds or so to check for the debuff and esuna appropriately.

This is 4.0 not 3.0, the player is relatively new and has had problems with the quest despite multiple attempts. The easiest solution to beat the quest is to offer what gear 4.0 can provide and give some helpful battle tips instead of letting her repeatily attempt it with lower level gear and become frustrated. Besides, the higher ilevel gear will mostly certainly alleviate some stress in facilitating the role of healer, a job she says she not too familiar with, and it will definitely be useful if she decides to try out a dungeon or does more of the of the level 60+ job quests. When I responded, I took into account her current status and also looked ahead into what a higher ilevel could provide for future quests and dungeons.

I don't believe anyone is saying to not use the better gear. We are saying that it's possible with the i140 gear. It's also good practice to clear content without over gearing for it. Especially the solo stuff where you won't burden others if you have trouble staying out of the fire.

If the player were a veteran player or one who was experienced in the role, I might have responded that way. But, put yourself in her shoes, a relatively new player who leveled smn not sch, someone not familiar with the job who wants to beat the quest after multiple attempts. I don't see anyone here who responded with any helpful tips on beating the quest to this player. The "I beat this quest with low ilevel gear two years ago when the cap was 60 and it was not hard" simply does not help. Well, what is easy for an experienced player may not be easy for a newer player. Besides keep trying with low ilevel, is there anything else that might be helpful for a new player? I don't see anyone else addressing to this issue.

Alternatively, as stated above they could work on upping their standard of play without the massive worry of pissing party members off. You've got to learn at some point after all, why not make it now?

Not many solo quests are especially challenging, but the ones that are can be a decent barometer to judge yourself by at your own pace and in comfortable isolation.

Naturally, either approach works, the final call is down to the OP really, neither you nor I pay their sub ofc

Even if I did though, I would have only reiterated what the OP stated in the first post. That really is all there is to it and all that is left is to execute it.

She did mention things about targeting npcs and not being able to Regen npcs with her fairy, but that goes back to where I said you can't heal your way out of this solo instance like we can with so many others. And targeting depends on if you're a PC or controller user. Again though, I just avoided going too far into it under the current circumstances.

Nothing wrong with your suggestions though, and you should feel free to provide those tips, even if some of us recommended using lower gear in contrast to higher level items to help.

The two solutions would be "git gud" or "git gear". The first solution requires experience which takes time and knowledge. I opted to respond with the "git gear" solution because sch was not her main job and is the faster and easier solution given her situation. I don't think new players come to the forums for help after multiple attempts with a quest want to be told to just "git gud". They want concrete answers, what exactly can they do to beat it. Go level up and learn how to play sch is a possible option, a detailed strategy for the quest might be another, or the third, buff up and beat it with better gear. I chose the third for the reasons I gave in the above posts.

Just to clear this up.

The problem you are most likely having with the Sch level 60 quest is not related to your gear but is likely related to the mechanics of the quest.
In the instance there are several NPC's. These NPC's get debuffs which if not removed will cause you to fail for what may seem like no reason. It does happen and if you dont see the debuffs then you will be left wondering why you failed the quest. There are quite a few NPC's and more join you as the quest continues.

The best course of action to complete this quest without too much of a hassle is to keep checking all the NPC's throughout the fight and use Esuna to remove any debuffs they get. Adds will spawn and you should kill them as fast as you can, however mind the NPC's debuffs while doing so.

Keep these things in mind and you will be able to complete the quest without too many issues.

I know is old. But for anyone, is not the gear. You need to keep track of the NPC and use esuna a lot.

Ideally you go far from the NPC so that the AOE try to target you.
