L2 PS4 controller issue

Its 100% the controller, when I used to play on the PS4 I used to suffer from this when I used one of my two controllers (I would cycle them when I needed to charge them) I ended up just using the controller that never experience the problem. I forgot about it one day and used the funky controller and lo and behold, that annoying problem was there. Time to buy a new controller.

I hope it is and I hope it's not the case. Because if it's just the controller I would gladly buy a new one, but just don't want to buy a new one and have the issue persist, you know? And it's hard to gauge that it's the controller because this issue doesn't arise anywhere else. And it's not like the button doesn't work because it is responsive but it's just weird that it randomly makes the character walk and no other kind of glitches.

no surprise the PS4 controllers can be a bit dodgy. bought a ps4 on launch date and the wireless controller would not keep a charge, since the release of the ps4 slim and pro, their controllers have been improved and redefined in circuitry to run smoother and last a lot longer.. but i am digressing from what im trying to say;
you will need to buy and replace your ps4 controller once every 2 years. also that is the expected recharge battery life cycle.

So I buckled down and bought a new controller to see if the issue persists on the new controller. I plan on using it through out the week. If it doesn't show up then I'll know a 100% it was the controller (I'm hoping it doesn't). If it doesn't happen again, I'll report back at the end of the week and request to close this topic. Wish me luck!

I do not. I mean it would be quite a thing to go buy a controller to see if it does the same thing. And it doesn't happen on any other game. It only happens for FFXIV. I have heard of others experiencing the same issue.

It's often a sensitivity thing. The ps4 controller buttons are all analogue input. And various games are designed to recognise it as a button press at different points. So some games it might work fine others you'll have issues.

Friend ahead a similar issue with the r2 and l2 buttons on his controller. Worked fine in most of his games except racing ones where he found he could never get full throttle by pressing the r2 button fully or brake properly with l2. But in shooters they would aim and fire his weapons just fine as a trigger. Except one game where a half press was a single shot semi automatic. And full press was automatic fire

We swapped controllers and I had the exact same issues it worked fine on most games but when driving games or something the r2 button never worked properly. Swapped back and he went and bought a new controller

Gen 1 controllers were assembled in 3 factories. The Asian factory controllers were made with a finer hardware standard. These Gen 2 controllers are nowhere as good or nice as the Gen 1 Asian made controllers.

I have found weird issues like this pop up when I'm wired to the system or pc. The fix is usually a new cable.

Totally forgot to come back here but over a week playing with the new controller and the issue has not shown up again. So conclusion it was the old faulty controller. Thank you to everyone's suggestions and replies. I kindly request to close those thread. ^_^
