    Highlanders in Kugane Castle?

So i was doing Kugane and noticed the first two set of Ninja trash are not midlanders but highlanders and that the Au Ra featured just after were xaela. Any idea why the "wrong" sub-clan was used? Mistake? Or a sign of garlean infiltration?

The Xaela are easily justified with them being nomadic warriors, probably doing business as common mercenaries, but the highlanders do boggle me as the only highlanders that recieved ninja training was from Karasu in Eorzea in the ARR ninja quests.

I imagine it's simply because they don't have an "Othardian" clan model as of yet. Similar to how Yuigiri had a Miqo'te before Heavensward, and how Minfilia and Yda had midlander models when they're supposed to be Highlanders. I would love to see them implement some more clans though, and it's possible they'll do model updates in the future.

The thing is, im fairly sure the second wave of ninjas on the bridge use the midlander model, making these two highlanders even more mysterious.

That is a good point. Are they technically a different type of unit than the other ninjas? If I had to guess, they might have made them 'highlanders' in order to give them a silhouette and appearance distinct from the other ninjas there.

Looking through two walk-throughs i can say both the midlander and highlander variant are called "Joi Genin" therefore belonging to the same mob type and name.

Highlanders only differ in height to midlanders save for minor alterations to body strength, so if a large silhuette was intended, max height slider midlander would more than suffice.

Highlanders are largely just, well larger, hyurs. the idea they are exclusive to Gyr abania is largely retconned a little bit I believe. I mean it's clear that Ilsabard has all races as well yet many of them come (according to basic race descriptions which might be out of date) from eorzean locales, it's simply just as likely that all races have migrated themselves to different parts of the world and there likely are highlander easterners much like how there are midlanders.

Im not fighting the idea that these two ninjas arent native, it just strikes me as odd that they are the only ones.

It's anyone's guess really, you could make up any kind of story to go with it, I'll make one up now: two brothers who were conscripts of the empire who deserted and found themselves working as mercenaries in eastern lands who eventually fell into good graces with a shinboi clan and trained to serve in their new life only to be cut short by the WoL while assisting in a political mission at the behest of their mentor, needless to say he was sad when he received the news of his pupil's deaths.

Well way back when Gaius And Friends were first introduced to 2.0 players (around level 15 i think), there was that one Highlander engineer from "Othard, milord" in EN (and Rabanaster/Dalmasca in JP), so there probably is a similar clan in the Far East.
