    Which Castrum is this?

    Hello,

standing in the central highlands of Coerthas, at around 6, 30 looking west you can clearly see some structure that looks a lot like another Castrum (picture inculded).
However, looking at a map my friend and I couldnt figure out which Castrum this might be.
It cant be Centri, because thats to far south. Infact, looking west from the highlands you should be able to see Dravania (if it wasnt for the mountains), but I cant recall a Castrum there (and it wouldnt make much sense either)?
    So... anyone got any ideas?

    Lorecast 6: E3 2015 Interview with Fernehalwes

F: There’s a silhouette visible from Monument Tower in Coerthas that looks exactly like Castrum Marinum, but the size and angle seem to be all wrong. Does Marinum have a twin out there?

KF: Oda-san says that this is a place called Castrum Aquilonis. The Empire started building it, but it was way too cold; the climate was way too harsh. They stopped halfway through, it’s now abandoned. That’s all I can say, because that’s all that’s been written.

What is with the Empire and these giant metal structures? Most seem redundant, and this Castrum Aquilonis seems almost completely done. Do they have some secret process by which they can pump out material like this in record time?

Take Baelsar's Wall, with it's high turrets and battlements. The time and resources needed to build that ridiculous thing could have been better used conquering Eorzea what with the manpower and resources that would have had to go into it. For the Wall it would make sense if it was built by an Empire scared that an army of Tempered Eorzeans might try to invade with a Primary in control, but I never get the impression it is anything other than a divider between Imperial lands and Gridania.

Baelsar's Wall was built precisely for that reason, actually. Keep them there primals out. Recall that the reason that the Imperial Legions halted their assault on Eorzea after conquering Ala Mhigo was because of the aftermath of the Battle of Silvertear Skies and the sudden surge of Primal activity.

The Castra throughout Eorzea are temporary constructions built in an extremely short time. Think like one of those flat-packed build-your-own houses. Airlift a few juggernauts of troops and engineers, and a container aircraft full of building parts into the heart of enemy territory, and suddenly you've got a well-defended military base in a strategic location for midnight raids and espionage. It's a key part of the strategy for Garlean expansion, and you can see how they used such techniques in Yanxia as well.

Edit: Castri -> Castra, how silly of me

Azys Lla as well, most of it is still in big metal boxes however. naturally because when you get to that point in the MS they only just arrived a short time before you did, they just won't get updated due to it being unneeded.

Also consider the camps that the legions of Ancient Rome used. They basically built a fortified camp at the end of each day when marching - built it in a couple of hours.
They also had more permanent camps built along the same design.

The Latin name for such camps was castra (singular castrum.)

Any similarities between the camps of the Roman legions, and the Garlean fortresses are likely not coincidence. The Garlean Empire in FFXIV draws much inspiration from the Roman Empire of our world.
