Game controller goes crazy on PC

Bit of an odd issue here.* While I'm playing on PC the game controller goes crazy every once in a while for about a second. I've used an Xbox 360 Controller, Xbox One Controller, and PS4 controller.*All with the same issue (It's not the controller at fault). *

​I've had 3 Alienware computers, all with this same issue (currently I have the Alienware 17 R4). *

​I've been able to replicate the issue any time I plug in or unplug a device, so I thought perhaps the system is refreshing something continually in the device manager. I've left the device manager open to try to find the issue but haven't been able to resolve it yet.

​Has anyone else had a similar issue and found a resolution?

What do you mean by crazy? I use a Xbox One controller, and sometimes when hitting a button, another spell will also trigger. Like hitting directional down will also trigger B for some reason.

But I've chalked it out to be a fault in the controller.

I had controller problems for a long time which was really hard to pinpoint the cause. I think it turned out to be something silly like my computer didn't like the usb cable my controller was connecting through. One of my different cables has no problem, and wireless mode also has no problem.

I'm guessing the issue you are describing is randomly losing connection while playing, causing your character to be stuck moving uncontrollably in the direction you were last pressing. Wireless mode on both XBO and PS4 controllers works well for me without those issues.

Do you use Steam? That tries to force its own button configuration, sometimes causing your buttons to have 2 things mapped onto them at once if the game is already compatible with controllers outside of Steam. You can hit the Xbox guide button while playing to dig into Steam controller settings and set things to a standard dualstick controls.

I used to have this alot and still have it occasionally, which, for me now, it's rare. I found it to be a latency issue and took steps to help correct it. My char used to just move by himself or wouldnt stop when supposed to. After turning off torrets, and a few other progs, this has mostly went away for me, using an X360 controller.

You weren't possibly hitting L1 were you?(or the xbox equivalent) Because that is defaulted to autorun, it took me a few embarrassing dungeon mishaps to look for why my character just ran off and wouldn't stop. I think there is another key mapped to autorun too but I can't remember off the top of my head(maybe on L3 or R3?)

No autorun, b/c if it was, i could still steer the character, but no, I run across a boss map without doing anything, and cant stop it until the game decided it wanted me to stop lol.

To clarify:
- It's not just auto run it's any action
- The controller does not lose connection
- It's not the USB cable %100, as I've used several different controllers on 3 different systems all with the same results

It's completely reproducible if plug something into a usb while playing the game or unplug something while playing. It's as though when the system detects something new or scans for something new, FFXIV loses contact with whatever the controller is doing for about a second.

Any help on this? Devs? I see it's been posted in the forums before by other users, for a few years. It's really, really, really annoying.
