Help With Low Monk DPS Please?

I don't know if this notifies anyone who has answered before, but if not, hopefully it'll at least bump back into view.

Just wanted to update saying that, despite practicing and practicing and practicing.....I'm pretty sure I still suck... I've definitely seen an improvement over what I WAS doing, but, as embarrassing as it is to say, I still haven't cleared V3. Closest I've reaches is 10% in an already cleared party. They were super nice, and informed me my dps is still on the low side.

I honestly have no idea at this point what I'm doing wrong, but I'm really exhausting myself of this game trying to beat this one raid. However, I did take a vacation break for a week or so before re-subbing, so, while I haven't been failing this ENTIRE time since my last comment, I HAVE been trying to clear it for roughly a month now with my new monk knowledge.

Aside from a freaky freak time when I killed the SSS dummy with 6 seconds left, I'm only baaarely able to kill it with 0 seconds consistently....I can't figure out how to replicate that one time.

The PB through Rof/Dem part is still giving me trouble. I can pretty much finish the sequence every time on a dummy, but in the raid itself, it's not as reliable with my current SkS (even with food). I've already got what I assume is too much SkS taking up materia slots, so I don't really want to swap out/ socket anymore or I'm going to become even more lost on how to pull off an opener.
After this opener I've been going with Powercow's suggested rotation, with oGCD sprinkled in, and lining up RoF and IR with eachother or TFC and such when possible. I've gotten very used to this rotation and I really like it!

I'm honestly hoping it's my gear that's the problem, cause that's easier to fix...but on the other hand, I've looked and looked at the other options I can GET right now, and I feel like I've got about the best pieces for now as far as having the most crit and such. I know I'd have a lot more SkS if I could just get the gear locked behind V3-4, and then I'd be able to free up slots for other stats.




I'm assuming part of my issue is "time off the boss". I really do think I've been staying on the boss as much as I can during V3 when mechanics/adds aren't in the way...what confuses me is how PERFECTLY do I need to stay on the boss? For instance, isn't my up-time on the boss also dependent on whether or not the tank brings the boss close enough during mechanics for me to hit? A lot of parties leave the boss in the middle of the room during the reaper/queen's waltz combo, etc. I can normally keep my GL just fine, but I just have to stand there until it's safe to run back. How do I get around that?

Due to all my failed runs, I've gotten a LOT of practice with V3's mechanics, so at least I'm comfortable with them now (minus those big reaper mindjacks, those still get me sometimes). But what's frustrating is, while my dps is "low", I have no idea just how low, or if I still could have cleared anyway, because all my PF parties don't make it through the mechanics long enough to see enrage ^^; So I'm now stuck in a spiral of new people every time AND low dps. I have NO idea where I stand!

I've been trying to take and remember any advice I get, but obviously everyone's opinion is different, so I've kind of ended up with a mish-mash of things.

This may have come off as a slight rant/pity post, but I can assure you I still intend to keep practicing. I'm horribly sick of V3 at this point, but I reeeaaallly want to clear it, or at least up my dps in time for the Ivalice raid on Tuesday...cause XII is my favorite FF!

Hopefully it's something obvious, but I've literally googled for hours. If anyone out there has any advice, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE for everything that is good tell me. I'm legitimately starting to feel like I literally do not have the brain power to play monk.

Update to myself: I think I actually managed to grab Hali off the tank for a second. Most times my hate level is "yellow" and sometimes "orange"..hmm
Update #2 to myself: Stayed with the same party from update 1 for about 4-5 hours total, reaching 3% enrage multiple times, and I believe grabbing hate, as I found myself needing to use diversion for once. Pretty much 0 deaths that were actually caused by myself. This party knew mechanics very well, they were awesome. But, eventually exhausted, two ppl finally called it (I don't blame them). Was going to leave too cause I was dead tired, but guy asked me to stay and had his two friends join. Tried about 2 more runs, admittedly died at some silly parts I wasn't dying to earlier, and got kicked by one of the friends, as well as blocked from joining their party again...I'm very confused. Assuming they think I suck at mechanics because I'm tired, and they didn't get to witness my last 5 hours not dying at all with their friend...or maybe my dps was low.. I may never know. I'm going to bed.

There are quite a few reasons I can see why your dps is suffering, because putting it frankly, you did not know how to properly play your job so you weren't ready to do savage.

Wow really? Thank you, that would be amazing! I'm not super familiar with how Discord works, so (hopefully) tomorrow/soon I'll try to get it going and add you if you'd still like to help, but don't feel obligated, obviously. I took a break from XIV today, haha.

You can either use discord on your browser or download the app on either your PC or phone, though I would highly suggest you download it on your PC first.
