The Samurai sheath is positioned in the wrong way. What I mean is that the way it rests on the character flank makes it impossible for the weapon to be in the position it's in when it's drawn, unless the character does a "180" degree move with its hilt as it's unsheathing it, which doesn't make much sense.

Also just by looking at it you can feel something it's off, considering every samurai portraied in other games and in images from wikipedia has his sheath reversed compared to how it is in game now.
No the sheaths are not positioned wrong.

If you look at how Japanese swords were worn in real life, it actually varied if they were worn with the edge upwards or downwards. It depended on the type of sword (there are several other of japanese swords other than the katana), the time period and the situation, etc.

The most well-known style was with the edge upwards however - which unless I am mistaken is just how the game shows it.
