Geomancer would get a bell, it's a final fantasy you're talking about. People would associate DRK and scythe but at the beggining it only had sword and katanas.I've always thought of this, I'm a fan of war hammers. If you were to ask me, if Geomancer ever was a class in this game, it would be the hammer user. It would be so appropriate, not to mention the interesting weapon oportunities to include crystals as the head of the hammer and god knows what as magic catalysts.
PS: for the "DRK should get a scythe"

Hammers were one of the classic weapon groups in the first FF game. Used almost exclusively by WHM.
I admit, SE tends to love its slashing classes a bit too much (WAR, DRK, PLD, NIN, SAM), followed by piercing (DRG, BRD, MCH). Poor blunt weapon users get no love (MNK).

There are a couple of DRG weapons in the game that are effectively this - one from the Eastern Journey promotion and one that's somewhere between lv.50-60 crafted/levelling gear IIRC?
Godbert fights with a hammer.
...and you could go around smacking things with autoattacks on DoH/DoL.. commonly seen when misclicking a low level node. .___.

I would personally much rather see new weapons like Hammers and Scythes added as the primary weapons for new jobs, rather than shoehorned in as awkward glamours for the weapons of jobs we have. Can you imagine how dumb it would look for a Dark Knight to swing a Scythe like they would a Great Sword?
You went to the wrong page. The one you wanted was Hammer (weapon type). Your link was only for hammers actually called "Hammer" (so didn't include other hammers like Mjolnir, and so on). Hammers have appeared in more than half of the numbered Final Fantasy (I, III, IV, V, VII, IX, XI, and XII) games and many of the spinoffs. This makes them WAY more common than Books are, and Books are weapons actually in this game.
Reno actually uses an Expandable Baton, not a Battle Staff.

I want hammers for a Viking class :O
I know we already have marauders being inspired by vikings, but that doesn't mean we can't actually get Vikings too.
dank meme

War hammers were used against armored troops.Hammers and scythes actually are in the game - they're tools not weapons though (for BTN and BSM respectively), which is their original use after all (hammers and scythes being used in warfare was mostly due to peasant militias utilizing whatever they had to hand as weapons). So I dare say you probably will never see these as weapons in the game I'm afraid.
Also the way the game's battle system is designed (the Armoury System), your class or Job is your weapon, a different weapon is a different class or Job. So that makes it even less likely you will see alternate weapon types on a specific class.

With the amount of heavily armored enemies a hammer would make more sense than a sword in many cases... Though I guess we have pugilist for that.![]()
WHM | RDM | DNC

Cid from FFIV used hammersNow that I think of it... I don't think I've ever seen a hammer wep in any FF game.
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Hammer_(weapon)
And yeah looks like the only characters in a numbered FF was Cinna, a minor character from IX.

DRK and WAR have already their weapon types.
The hammer will be for a hammer swinging job, with it's own skill set around how to swing a hammer
The weapon decide the class/job.
Just imagine a person with a sword. He will be a sword fighter so long he have the sword in the hand. But the moment he throw away the sword to pick up a bow he is not a sword fighter, but now a bow fighter, who will fight with the bow not the same way he did with the sword. Until he pick up the sword again.
