Then you must be far behind on the story mode. To progress through the opening story, your're required to complete Sastasha, the tam-tara deepcroft, copperbell mines, totorok, Hauke manor, Brayflox's longstop, the stone vigil, plus three primal fights and three mandatory eight man raids. You could theoretically power level yourself and solo all of these, but that would take very, very long time. Just make some friends to run content with you, or pay a 70 to do unsynced runs.

If you're unsure of how to tank, go to any of the three adventurer guilds and talk to an npc called The Smith. He will put you through a series of quests that will teach you how to play your role successfully.
