It's ok, like there's an added element of strategy to collecting and defending medals. If they bring back a standard deathmatch without medals, maybe we could keep both modes, and just shift the rewards / ranking system to the ruleset that the community prefers, without deleting the Feast medals mode as an alternative option for unrated play? When there's more match types available they can have the rotating rewards thing they are planning for Frontlines also apply to Wolves' Den, where there's some incentive to play some old modes sometimes for a change / fun.
We don't need medals deleted, just adjusted a bit so you aren't insta killed like now because there's no way to spread the medals around with the current damage output and defensive CDs. 4 stack tank? Dead. 1 stack anything else? Dead. Being in the lead is way too punishing now. Anyone who played before 4.0 can see this.
It definitely needs adjusting. Winning is far too punishing.
I never understood why different classes had the same medal thresholds as each other. You could do some fun stuff by giving tanks & melee more initial medals & capacity, and taking them from healers and ranged. We don't need medals deleted, just adjusted a bit so you aren't insta killed like now because there's no way to spread the medals around with the current damage output and defensive CDs. 4 stack tank? Something like:
Tank / 150 Initial / 250 Heavy Medal
Melee / 125 Initial / 200 Heavy Medal
Healer / 75 Initial / 150 Heavy Medal
Ranged / 50 Initial / 150 Heavy Medal
One balance issue that crops up is that you can safely ignore tanks unless they overstack, because they simply can't take "enough" medals to be relevant. Boosting their default & carriable medals would do a lot to help with that.
Agreed. I've had matched where we curbstomping the opposing team, yet at the last 30 seconds we all lose because everyone has multiple stacks.
Spreading out medals doesn't even work as much anymore since it only takes 2-3 stacks for things to get out of hand.
The other day I took my loosing team that was sitting on the most minimal number of medals to winning.. in the very last 3 seconds by fester/bahamut death flare on the opposing tank.
I'm pretty sure I heard 4 sets of controllers be thrown out some distant JP windows.
I brought this very subject to attention on reddit and got cackled at. I'm thrilled to see actual PVPers who feel the same way.
There are tons of disadvantages to the medal system. There needs to be an overhaul.
Perhaps in replacement, we could have a point objective based game. Think of it kind of like Shatter, but instead of using Ice we have a crate or something that's worth a large sum of points while killing a player is worth a small sum of points.
Killing a player and grabbing the objective sounds like a solid pvp game. But that's just my opinion. I would go into further detail on how this game mode could work, but I am pretty lazy and don't feel like typing all of that out. Lol.
