Richard, trying to judge the response from the forums is silly. Just look at all the football and food jokes. This is why I ask: I see them as adults, but I want to know how many other people don't because I'm considering making machinima and I want to gauge what the reaction would be if there's a lalafell who's a bit of a womanizer.
Judging by the responses, I'm guessing people would either find it funny or disturbing, which isn't necessarily what I was going for.
Now, I see lalafell as adults. As others have pointed out, they are chibis. But, that doesn't make them any less adults. Just like adults of the other races, there are good ones, bad ones, clever ones, lecherous ones, and virtuous ones.
I'm going to give you an important lesson taught to me while I was writing in college. "The key to writing a good female character is to write her as a person and not as a woman." That rule applies to fantasy races too. If you have a lalafell womanizer, write them up as a womanizer who just happens to be a lalafell too. You'll get the response you were aiming for.
Good luck! I can't wait to see the machinima!

If I had a wyvern I'd use lala's as pet food. Their ancestors the Tarutarus made great snacks in the past.
Well, it's a very general gauging, but I'm mostly curious to see how people react to lalafells being adults because I'm not sure how people outside the XIV community would respond to it.
I think I'd need to put up an opinion poll to gather more data with questions about things like how seriously someone would take a male lalafell as a love interest for a hyur female, for example.
I mean, I'm sure a lalafell would come across as hilarious if he was essentially a 2.5ft tall "Archer", but could he ever be more than just a running gag?
As it stands, XIV itself treats lecherous lalafells as a gag. I mean, just look at the Moonfire Faire and how Gegeruju and his female lalafell assistant were both being pervy peeping Toms.
But like, could a lalafell work as an actual serious half of a love story? If the XIV community isn't in accord about them being adults (or at least resembling them), an audience member outside the community could very well be horrified by it (even if it was a male lalafell, because double-standards are a thing, after all).

There is a series of Hallmark figurines that is all children, but often in adult roles (Precious Moments is the name, I believe). This is what I see when I see a lalafel. except instead of a warm, wholesome child, I see a demonically inspired homunculus, a product of some sort of unholy and unnatural creation. I do not feel comfortable around them. I actually avoid Uldah because of them.
Lalafell are number 2 on my list of things I would like to see eradicated from Eorzea. Moogles are #1.
Might be more palatable if it was written similar to how this movie played out.But like, could a lalafell work as an actual serious half of a love story? As for actual Lalafell love stories, they do exist, but the Lalafell in each relationship is usually female. The Heavensward CUL questline immediately springs to mind, and even Nanamo and Raubahn could be seen in that regard to some degree as well. The ARR WVR questline would be an example of an all-Lalafell love story as well.
Momodi already had a explicit history or being promiscuous. In the postmoogle quests you had dealt with a Hyur who was propositioning her.But like, could a lalafell work as an actual serious half of a love story? I see them as a waste of space, and the obligatory 'cute' race every game feels compelled to include for no good reason.
I could say a whole lot more about what I think of the people who play them, but I don't feel like getting forum banned.

I could argue it both ways.
It would make more sense to those unfamiliar with XIV, but it would make a lot LESS sense to those who know the universe well, since these races have been living around each other for literally ages and there aren't any usually reservations about marrying whoever you want, it seems.
Yeah, it's established in game that lalafells are adults, but I was wondering what the external perception might be.
I think I'd need to spend a lot of time establishing that lalafells are absolutely adults, dealing with adult problems like money, existential bullshit, alcohol addictions, etc. before moving onto lalafells having relationships with tallfolk.
Show us on the doll where the lalafell hurt you.
I mean, damn...sweeping generalizations much?
