I read that as Comic Sans. Lol
I have a weird cognitive dissonance with half naked Lalafell. They act like adults, but physiologically resemble children.
That being said, I consider them like gnomes from Western fantasy settings.
Well, I mean "unique" in that lizard horns/scales being added to humans isn't that common of a subtrope.
The main trope of adding animal features to humans, however, has been done to death, yes. Cat/bunny girls are so commonplace that even American games like Wildstar have them.
That's not a bad example at all: that looks like an aged lalafell.
We really need more "age indicator" options for characters in general. Some of the faces you can choose look obviously older than others, but we don't often have the ability to add wrinkles in the list of facial features.

God damn it I'll take the bait.
Lalafells are FFXIV's 'gnomes / halfling race, they have tiny hands, tiny feet, and large heads. And some even have facial hair / grey hair both among the playerbase and NPCs.
Anyone who makes the connection between them and human children in any way or form are the ones with the problem.

Trying to gauge how people see lalafells for machinima/storytelling purposes and wanted some perspectives outside my own.
I see them as a blight on Eorzea, comic relief at bestSerious question: do folks look at lalafells as adults or closer to children (or somewhere in between)?
I ask because the game itself definitely paints them as adults (often evil, ruthless, money-grubbing adults), but the running gag of lecherous lalafells (usually males) is definitely found throughout the game.
Do you think the average person, when seeing a snippet of dialogue where a male lalafell is hitting on the women of taller races, would be weirded out by it?
For the whole 30 seconds it took one to open their mouth.
I thought they did a very good job of voice casting and writing the Lalafell to make it clear they're more akin to D&D Halflings than a token "child-like race"
As horrifying as that image was, I disagree with the need for an age indicator simply because it goes against the intention of the game designers. That's not a bad example at all: that looks like an aged lalafell.

They're supposed to perpetually look like children and not be that discernible in regards to age. That's the whole point.possessed of a childlike countenance, it proves difficult for non-Lalafell to gauge an individual's age with any degree of accuracy.
Then again, it's not like players care that much about lore, otherwise they'd know...
Lalafell are welcoming of outsiders, and share prosperous relations with all of the other races of Eorzea.
Almost simultaneously an interesting thread popped up on Reddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...you_play_them/
Thinking about it, plainsfolk lalafell are very much like 1st & 2nd edition AD&D halflings. While dunesfolk lalafell are more like 3rd edition AD&D halflings with their mercantile streak. However, both resemble TSR's artwork of 1st edition AD&D halflings with their rotund bodies and child-like countenances. I agree. The voice acting is quite good.
same arguments being had in 2023
