Using guns as the primary weapon.

The Tools that Edgar or any given Cid may have used could be incorporated as abilities or weapon skills?

Libra could be an ability that reveals more detailed information about the enemy (HP, MP, TP, elemental/ailment weaknesses and strengths). Else, a debuff that increases effectiveness against the target.

Drill as a melee-based weapon skill (for a ranged-based class) that deals damage, ignores defense, and/or may afflict a defense down/deprotect effect.

Maybe a type of Grenade "weapon skill" that deals AoE damage. Lore behind it may be a concoction created by alchemists using bomb ash, fire pots, bomb arms, and/or potentially explosive materials.

Just throwing it out there while we're on the topic.

edit: Forgot why I was editing. Oh well, t'will come back to me someday.
Ive also been thinking of something like that. However, if you recall the magitech armors were overpowered, making a lvl 1 character deal dmg equivalent to that of a lvl 30ish character (? havnt played that game in a long time but I know it was overpowered). So I think it should go a little something like this.

If you have an engineer in your party that takes up 1 party slot, if said engineer chooses to bring out his magitech armor thats 2 party slots, now it is balanced and the job makes sense because it deals dmg equivalent to that of say 2 people instead of 1.

All great ideas start small. I knew an engineer ONCE! (he's name is Cid) If it gathers weight as the ff franchise can contribute, the FFxiv-team should def add that class in the future, along with Mimic(class or job?) ;D

If the engineer does have such a device as a Magitek armor / combat mount, I think it may difficult to balance its power and authentic feel with other combat mounts. Unless others ride a.giant Gobbue, Ogre, or Couerl into battle.

can make it that the magitek will have same dmg as a MRD with a lot of Hp and defense in return for not being able to heal (in other words, the machine will have decent physical def and resistance but no magic def and you can not use cure on it) but the only way for it to regen heal is repair (no not gear duration but repair in term of repair), and the engineer himself can be less dmg and w/o magitek the engineer can deal dmg by throw bomb or gun shot w/o ws for example (no dont take Cid character unique into this matter)

I think it work better that way, so the magitek act as a equip wep with limit instead of a mount

i had mentioned in another thread id like arcanist to get engineer as a job. Theu are already supposed to be using a mech type wand, and the jobs seem to only add a few skills, so some traps and stuff would be cool.

i am not in favor of a magitek armor or any job/class that requires 2 party's slots to compensate for extreme OP. How would you balance solo play in that. It would really promote rmt to have something so OP for solo.

I had an idea going on Engineer > Puppetmaster but not much thought. I was hoping for them to have a main weapon of Great Hammers XD
