Yes yes yesWe need some variety in our open world zones and doors that have different requirements to open is an addition I would welcome. That said, if the devs come up with an even cooler idea unique to XIV I would enjoy that even better.

The switch doors in xi were interesting. Not something I would like to see repeated. Granted they were kind of cool when you had a group going through them. Yea i will admit it was kind of nifty to work together to get the things open and every body inside.
How ever if you were the only person who had to go behind them you had to brow beat people into dropping what they were doing and come out to help you. Something that i never enjoyed doing.
Now if you are talking about legit puzzles to open some doors then i can dig that. A legit puzzle can be solved quickly by a group or the lone wolf who is lagging behind the pack.

luckily there were usually ways to bypass these. Any of the 3 banishing gates could be bypassed if you had [s] access and you could bypass the 3 mage gate as well if you were willing to run a few short quests. Made getting af gear easier.
These were more a nuisance than anything imo. Having to get 3 ppl together just run our and open a gate for you then warp out. Meh. Its just an annoyance. If they do give us something like this again they need to give us a way to bypass them if we are willing to run quests or something of the sort.

Whilst I'm not a fan of pretty much any of the zones you mentioned, I can see what you're shooting at and I have to agree that these kinds of things would really make the game world feel special, with explorable open world dungeons to venture into and find treasures etc.
My fondest memories of FFXI involve the beginning of the ToAU expansion where everyone ventured out into the new world for the first time to see all the amazing new areas and complete the new storylines. What they didn't do is sit in cities with a content finder immediately, and never leave because you get teleported inside the dungeon. (Disclaimer: I recognise that people gathered in cities and shouted for group members, but there was always some degree of travelling and rarely were you shut off from the rest of the playerbase like a 'theme-park' style of game with dungeons).
So you want a copy/pasted MMO then? Isn't that what we have now? That's what you're asking for. Skyrim is just as bad as FFXIV in that department (ok not AS bad, but bad). They re-use assets , themes, and re-use them in every single dungeon in the game. The same 5 puzzles, the same monsters (in the same styles areas), and the same traps. Over, and over.I pray for Skyim-esque dungeons in 2.0... Where there are Draugr coming out of tombs and statue puzzles, door puzzles, booby traps that can dmg you or the mobs in the dungeon. AND DRAGONS EVERY 20 SECONDS IN N OUTSIDE OF CITIES N TRIUMPHANT MUSIC AND PURCHASABLE HOUSING SO U CAN BASK IN GLORY WHILST IN THE COMFORT OF YOUR OWN ABODE LUMINATED BY FIRE LIGHT WITH YOUR 7 NAKED WIVES!!!!
Truely, an MMO I look forward to playing.
No thanks. I want something unique every time. I understand that copy paste comes with any game, but I don't want it EVERYWHERE. Also hopefully if they add Dragons too this game they have good AI, and are harder then a level 1 beetle.
(Also please do not try and insult my intelligence as say I haven't played the game. I have the Platinum trophy and have spent countless hours on the game.)

Just wanting some content added to XIV that is similar to something XI had is not wanting them the make the whole game like XI... I don't think anything is this thread said "copy XI wholesale!" just that the OP enjoyed that content in XI and thinks it would be a nice addition to XIV.Oh looks, its another one of those "lets make this game like FFXI" threads, I got something you'd be interested in:

Or shouldn't we have anything in XIV that is like something that existed in XI?
You're not wanting some content added, you're wanting a copy-paste of XI, You're not requesting a Trap/mechanics based dungeon located behind the waterfalls shown in the opening video, you're asking for hurrdurr lets get this XI thing. your entire post was, XI was this, XI was that, This is how XI did it, that's not original, even if you don't blatantly say "lets copy everything from XI" you're not particularly trying to hide or deny the fact that this is what you want.Just wanting some content added to XIV that is similar to something XI had is not wanting them the make the whole game like XI... How much originality should i put into responding to a post that's essentially copypasted from every other post in this thread? there's only so many ways you can reply to a "lets make this game more like XI"
