With the game getting a total world overhaul, I thought of something I'd like to see in the game. Anybody who played Final Fantasy XI will know what I'm talking about...and anybody who disagrees with me can go drink a nice cup of this, because I don't care!(Just kidding, hate all you want! DEMOCRACY!)
Can we please get zones similar to Garliage Citadel, Quicksand Caves, Inner Horutoto Ruins, etc? Each of these zones had specific doors that had different requirements to open. Garliage had the Banishing Gates, which needed 1 person to stand on 4 buttons, Quicksand Caves had the pressure plates, which needed different weights to opens, and Inner Horutoto had the Three Mage Door, which needed a Black, White and Red mage to open (unless you had the key, dirty Windurstian cheaters!). I feel this could still add to the party aspect of the game, without the stupid YOU MUST HAVE 4 PEOPLE ABOVE LEVEL 45 TO ENTER THIS INSTANCE!!! nonsense we have now. There can be an instance further in, but I'd like to see more open-world party based content, aside from being power leveled.
It doesn't even have to be for endgame content. I'd like to see story missions take places in an area I have to run to, aside from a tiny bit away from an Aetheryte camp/gate.
EDIT:
Eldieme Necropolis too! I don't know how I could forget a place like that... Eldieme can suck my Galkan Sausage... (DAMN YOU ANCIENT PAPYRUS!!!)
EDIT #2:
I'm sorry if my post came off as me just wanting FFXI-2, because that's not the case. FFXI was a great game, but I've moved on. I just feel that the game had some interesting ideas that could be applied to this game. I just chose those zones as examples because of how unique they were in their approach to distancing players from stuff, such as coffers. The game currently has a few things like it, like fighting a dude to open a gate inside a beastman stronghold. I would like to see Square-Enix expand on this concept further by giving players an objective other than "move forward and kill stuff."
For example, there could be a door that requires you to cast spells on seals on the walls within a certain time limit. So, you would need to equip an elemental spell (i.e. Fire) to cast on the seal (i.e. Seal of Flames) in order to trigger the door. If this was set inside an instanced area, the elemental seal could be randomized, so you don't get set in the "Fire is first, Ice is second...blah blah blah" mindset.
Or hell, you could even go off of the Halloween event we had this year. Have a door that requires you to input an answer based on stuff you've read around the zone (like the ??? you can read in The Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak). If this was done in an instanced area, the answers could be randomized so you don't always pick the same thing.
What I'm mostly getting at...is I want the game to give off a feel like we're not wanted inside these places, and we have to find a way inside. All the FFXI zones I mentioned previously gave off an impression that there were security measures set up, and you had to find a way past them. It makes the reward on the other side that much sweeter to me when I feel like I earned my way to it. (Yes...hitting a giant dude until he dies is ALSO rewarding...I just want more than that! LEAVE ME ALONE DAD, YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND ME!)
Also, version...not verison.![]()
