Help with BLM Rotation

Hi,

I just got to Lv 68 yesterday, and I got this confusing trait that let me flare for 2/3cost at cost of umbral hearts.

What is that supposed to mean? Is it good? As a healer I don't see many flares in Expert Roulette...

I thought a good opening (without Ley Lines) after this would be Blizzard > Enochian > Blizzard 4 > Fire 3 > Fire 2(or Fire 4) > Fire 2(or Fire 4) > Triplecast > Flare > Flare > Transpose > Flare > Convert > Swift > Flare > Max Ether > Flare > Transpose > Foul > Repeat

Does anyone know a better rotation? Am I doing something wrong? Please help!

Okay so the 68 trait is for when you have umbral hearths up only. You know when you cast Blizzard 4 you get 3 stacks of umbral hearths reducing the mp cost of 3 fire spells in astral fire. Casting flare will consume all 3 or however many are remaining but will not reduce your mp to 0 basically allowing you to cast 2 flares before your mp hits 0 if you have any umbral hearths up. If you do not have any umbral hearths when you cast flare your mp will still go to 0.

So for aoe pulls you will want to do something like this:
At pull: Blizzard3->Enochian
Umbral Ice: Thunder4->Blizzard4->Fire3
Astral Fire: Triplecast if available->Flare(Umbral hearths goes to 0 here)->Flare(MP goes to 0 here)->(Convert if available)->Flare(MP goes back to 0 here)->(If Max Ether is available and you want to use it you can here followed by->Swiftcast->Flare)->Transpose->(Foul if available)->Repeat from Umbral Ice phase.

Depending on target count you can cast 2xFire4 or 2xFire2 before the first flare leaving you with still 1 umbral hearth so that the first flare doesn't consume all your MP.

As for not seeing many flares in expert dungeons that sounds weird, there are multiple aoe pulls in all dungeons and if you're running with a BLM they should be using flare alot.

Well, what you said differently is to not Transpose > Flare in the middle of the rotation. I know there's a discussion about using Flare while in Umbral Ice, But is it that huge of a DPS loss? I don't have a parser, so can anyone help me with this? Is not easy to find info about how Astral Fire works, does Flare get potency increase from AF?

That's actually pretty easy to test. Just cast flare with and without astral fire. 6k without and 11k with on dummy.

Flare is a fire spell (it will actually extend Astral Fire or cancel Umbral Ice AND will gain the Astral Fire potency buff) Therefore you should never ever cast flare outside Astral Fire. So to answer your question, Yes it is a HUGE damage loss to cast Flare in Umbral Ice, plus it will cancel your Umbral Ice making it even more pointless to do so.

Try Ley B3 - Eno B4 - Sharp T4 - F3 Triple - Flare Flare Convert Flare - Transpose T4TC B4 F3 and go from there.

3-5: T4 B4 F3 Flare Flare
6-8: T4 B4 F3 F2 F2 Flare Flare
