Job dilemma

So, I'm going to throw myself under the community bus asking this but I have a dilemma.

Can't decide on a job this expansion. Mained MNK since HW, leveled SAM but found myself unable to take either to PF raids past O1S. Near every group has at least one melee, another reserved for NIN, after that the other slots are reserved for ranged (let's be real, it's BRD.) and a caster.

Started leveling BRD again since this was my main late ARR, though lately I'm starting to feel like if I'm leveling this just to raid or if I'm really enjoying the class after the adjustments. Even leveled NIN to 63 to see if it's something I'd like and honestly BRD feels more fluid. Just hate this nagging feeling that I'm selling out to the "meta". The only positive thing I can think of maining BRD again is that I'd be gearing up MCH at the same time since that's the more "fun" of the ranged jobs.

I've avoided Savage raiding all of HW due to players excluding MNK, and it never bothered me until this expansion since I really want to raid. Also O3S is where I noticed that book mechanic you be hard pressed to take more than two melee with you because you gotta spread and AND still do damage. The Savage loot system makes it all the more worse.

Perhaps I hate that the way you gear in this game is gated behind just two events with loot lockouts, wish raids weren't the only way to get the superior gear and you have to wait a whole patch to catch up.


EDIT: Once upon a time, I considered leveling DRG. Coming from FFXI, DRG always had a bad rep for doing mediocre to pathetic damage (lolDRG). That rep followed it until HW but now that SB is out I'm starting to see far less DRG and that's concerning since I got that Sun Wukong pole from the promo and been dying to glamour it. I know play what you want, but if raid groups are telling you to roll another class what is the point?

Only time I've ever seen people do this is with MCH and AST at the beginning of HW because they really were /THAT/ bad. Now however? Arguably all the jobs are in a fairly decent, if not good position. I highly doubt the majority of people will care, and those who do tend in my experience to be the people who need to be carried and thus only want 'THE BEST'. Ignoring the fact that all jobs can now get the job done.

Groups always need tanks and always need healers. Maybe try looking into either one of those.

Like Altena already wrote, play what you like and make your own party. Everything else will lower your fun in the game.

I simply do not care, for me personally I want performance, and the job I can perform most on is the one that goes. Why do you have a feeling "sell out" to meta? Some jobs will be favored, but what you can perform best on trumps such gaps. Play what you feel is most natural to you, this means thinking less about rotations, so you can focus on mechanics, and this in turn leads to higher DPS because the rotations are natural. BTW, BRD is on the lower end for personal DPS, they are wanted because of the DPS+ support they offer.
