I am lost on this topic too, based on what has been said on another thread, Fists of Fire (or Earth) are magical attacks only for show (Inteligence, MP usage and elemental affinity are there just to confuse you) and are considered physical attacks on everything else besides the elemental part.
Think of FoF kinda like as an Enspell like RDM from XI. I have been doing an INT build to see if it does more dmg it does but one thing gets me. INT incresses our AA dmg, but using the crown that gives +6 fire magic potency helps as does the int i melded on the crown. So seeing how INT increase our AA dmg i don't know if INT is making the FoF do more dmg or just my AA attacks. The raw fire atk dmg helps tho.I am lost on this topic too, based on what has been said on another thread, Fists of Fire (or Earth) are magical attacks only for show (Inteligence, MP usage and elemental affinity are there just to confuse you) and are considered physical attacks on everything else besides the elemental part.
Yeah but FoF makes my AA fire, it doesnt add fire damage on my AA, the fire effect is from Ifrits weapons.
fist of fire on bombs is the bomb, get it![]()
Well I don't have any numbers to show you. However I am almost certain while comparing my fists of fire w/ and w/o my +13 fire potency/+20 earth potency caligae I see 0 difference in my damage.
Same goes for earth potency too. I think this was not implemented correctly... We can use the potency on weapons if someone actually wanted too, but no one does lol. I'd imagine most people are rolling around moogle or ifrit like me. Thus there has probably been 0 complaints. If someone does have a pair of boosting feet please try it out yourselves and help me confirm that the potency is not boosting damage.
With +18 Fire Potency (+9 from Electrum Circlet (Rubellite) and +9 from a Fire Materia) there's absolutely no damage increase... even a slight one to Fists of Fire. I realize 18 is a fairly low number but the elemental affinity materia have been fairly difficult to come across for me =/
Not to mention it would really suck to double (or higher) meld on your feet just to find out that it's doing absolutely nothing and could've added something else. Maybe once someone does manage to get a higher amount it can be extensively tested. At the moment it seems like the easiest amounts to come across aren't doing anything significant.
I, too, haven't had any success in obtaining a difference in damage with my testing on fire potency.
I do know, however, that attack magic potency does not affect PGL stances and for that matter neither does magic accuracy.
It's best to think of these stances as Enfire and Enstone with additional bonuses to attack power and defense respectively. Still purely physical, but also elemental.
Is it really still purely physical damage though? If you use Fists of Fire on Ifrit, you actually heal him per hit. If you pop Fists of Earth you get no attack bonus but you actually end up (or at least I did) doing more damage per hit and with weaponskills. These two stances might not actually act magical in terms of magic accuracy/potency making them more effective, but I think counts as magical.
Kind of like you have a flaming fist but you still need physical accuracy/attack to make that hit connect.
They are elemental. Elemental does not necessarily mean magical. Hitting the god of fire with fire whether it be magically or physically healing him makes sense. Also Fists of Earth tend to hit Fire-based mobs harder than regular attacks from what I can tell. While there are major weaknesses based on the elemental wheel, it seems to me like each element is weak to other elements to a lesser degree, or resistant to other elements to a lesser degree than what they straight-counter.Is it really still purely physical damage though? However I conclude they are not magical due to no difference being noted with gains to any of the magic potencies.
