Well back when I had click and buy for this game, I got a call from my credit card company saying that c&b were trying to charge me $2. This was for the original free 30 days mind you. Of course I declined it since I didn't see any indication that I would be charged and now I refuse to use them what-so-ever. So if crysta is a pain to use, bye-bye FFXIV for me.

yes they will, and if you somehow changed or added a new card they will charge you again, they say they will keep it in your account later but you cant get it back, you need to use it (and good luck with that).

Hmm... usually that $2 charge is to confirm your account? You don't need a "verified" account to use the subscription services. SE should really make a post about it... I don't mean forums but rather on the SE accounts page before they send you off to click and buy.

Yes any extra fee, especially of $1-$2 is verification from Click & Buy, Paypal and other SEA vendors also does this. It's all in their terms people never read.

Do they charge a transaction fee? I've yet to be charged by SE through C'n'B so I would not know. I guess after Jan. comes we'll see. I'm just glad I can switch to crysta if need be.

There is a 2.4USD charge, it will go away around 3 - 7 days. It's just to comfirm your card is usable. However, some countries cards (outside USA) will decline Clickandbuy depending on the bank, so it might be possible that you have to let them know not to decline it.

I think I have your answer, given that we are NOT talking about the card verification process here.

If you live outside the United Kingdom or the Eurozone, your BANK will charge you an international currency transaction fee on top of whatever the subscription cost ends up being in your currency. This fee will vary depending on your bank and local financial regulations. Here are some examples, for a single character account in each case and assuming the bank's charge is always 50c (inevitably not representative of your circumstances).

    Example #1: United States
Charge of $9.99US per month from SE charged through ClickandBuy
Charge of $0.50US per transaction from your bank for paying a UK/EU company in their currency.
    Total: $10.49US

    Example #2: France
Charge of 9.99EU per month from SE charged through ClickandBuy
    Total: 9.99EU

    Example #3: Australia
Charge of 9.99EU per month from SE charged through ClickandBuy
    This converts to $12.64AU
Charge of $0.50AU per transaction from your bank for paying an EU company in their currency.
    Total: $13.14AU

So as you can see, you will need to watch what currency you are paying in (any worldwide) and what that currency is being converted to (always Euro or pounds with C&B) and if there is a conversion, your bank will charge you an extra fee.

Now SE have had complaints about these fees on the FFXI forums and have promised to "fix" it. I want to point out that these fees are entirely beyond the control of SE or ClickandBuy. In order to fix it, they would have to reduce the service fee costs they charge to "mask" what your bank charges you and this would of course be open to exploitation, which means that won't happen. Alternatively, it would require fundamental changes in worldwide monetary policy - of the kind not happening any time soon.

Lastly, C&B charge an annual admin fee if you load your account with cash, but this should not apply in your case if you are going through the SE management system - only if you are using the C&B system for things other than this game.

((PS: I still want that alternative billing option that was promised...))

So why did Square charge you and no one else monthly for FFXIV before January?...They didn't? Probably because we weren't being charged until January and the additional options were regarding FFXI, however -- When setting up monetary systems with multiple nations each has their own set of rules and regulations, for example if I recall the US has a 30-60 day wait period before it's finalized.

It's lot wiser to get both games up and running on the same system at the same time because they'd have to go through another verification process for Final Fantasy XIV if they did originally only set it up FFXI, since they'd have to tell them "We're going to be taking consumer money for this product too" basically. There will be an international fee no matter what and it's barely even 0.50.

They can only do so much about a company they DON'T OWN OR OPERATE. Not to mention:

Please note that we are working to implement additional payment options around the commencement of billing in early January.
