    crafting + partying

Hi all, this is the first MMORPG that im actually subscribing to - I can't get enough of the atmosphere, characters, lore, the list goes on and on...yet since i have no experience with MMOs, the amount of content and choices a player can make are staggering & my head is swimming with options.

right now im a lvl 8 marauder in gridania. I see people crafting, and after some research it seems really neat and something I can become obsessive compulsive about. What's the purpose? Where do the items you make go? What are the differences in questing between a crafter and an adventurer? What would be the easiest way for me to learn?

Also...I HATE PLAYING SOLO! i get so jealous when i see people exploring together...I want to have someone to talk to & grind with, but all my tries to do so thus far have failed. Any noobs like me interested in hanging out? I'm in besaid - but i'll switch servers instantly for a chance to chill with you (if you show me how)

    Yay, questions!

    Let's see:

    (Crafting)

    What's the purpose?

Well, basically to make stuff. In the most simple way, you can craft your own gear (weapons, armor, etc..), food for enchantments, potions for healing. Of course, to craft something you need materials. If you're already level 8 you might already have some materials in your inventory. You need to know the recipe to craft something.

I suggest going to the local guild of any of the crafting classes that look interesting and buying a tool. Just equipping the tool will give you the ability to craft stuff. As for the recipes and the process, try reading this:

    http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com...e/craft01.html (crafting process)

    http://www.ffxiv-db.com/ (to look up recipes)

Where do the items you make go?

Everything you make ends up in your inventory. Just need to hit the little bag icon on your screen ;D

What are the differences in questing between a crafter and an adventurer?

When you're a disciple of War or Magic most of the leves (or all of them) involve killing stuff. In case of crafters, well - it's about crafting. Once you select a leve you'll get the ingredients of the recipe and all you have to do is craft (sometimes you'll have to look for a NPC to get the ingredients). Take note: once you get the ingredients, you can only use them for the leve/quest not for selling or for personal use.

What would be the easiest way for me to learn?

As I said before, try going to a guild and buy a tool. Seems that you're in Gridania, you can go to the leatherworkers guild and buy a " Weathered Head Knife " to get started (I suggest leatherworker since you can make armor usable by almost any class). Then go to the Adventurer's Guild and talk to the guy next to where you get the normal levequests. Those are called "local levelquests", just select the correct class (Leatherworker) and select a leve. You should get an in-game tutorial once you actually begin crafting.

As for parties, and stuff. Try shouting or using the search function (it works!). Or just talk to people you see in the camps you frequent.
