I still think a musketeer would work.. Uses a (saber and a gun) or a (saber and a dagger) but I'm more with the gun.. as its Maelstrom lore... and it will fit as a physical based ranged and melee DPS just like how the RDM is a range and melee caster
They can't 'do away with classes' though as the existing classes are fundamentally linked to the lore and the very game's design - to scrap classes would require so much modification to the existing story, city designs and dialogue for no real benefit, so I do not actually see that happening.
Of course we sadly will no longer see any new classes added, but they simply won't be rolling in existing classes into their Jobs as it has almost zero benefit for a huge cost in development resources, so they'll just quietly ignore it.

Actually they "can" do away with them and have made mention of doing just that in various panel discussions, currently trying to find a source to link for you. Yes, it will be as major of an over haul as you state but it is possible and they are thinking about it.
