[Possibly a bug] Dialogue Selection when NPC has a Single Subquest Available

Just a weird frustration I have, but I'm probably not the only one considering it is Final Fantasy.

If you try to talk to an NPC when they have a single subquest available it immediately pulls up the quest window. This means that if you are on a subquest for something nearby that changes their dialogue you're unable to see that dialogue change.

If an NPC has two subquests available a window comes up to select which chat option to read, but if they only have one subquest available the window does not appear. This includes NPC's that have multiple sidequests, so some dialogue can be unseeable because the NPC you're doing the quest for is unable to be spoken to without accepting another quest.

Please add an option in settings to always make that window appear, especially as an option for NPC's with quests available. Pics included.

I've been frustrated by this problem as well (most commonly with the Ixal quests, but I've seen it come up elsewhere as well). Whenever an NPC has exactly one quest to be started or progressed, but other active quests with dialog options, you cannot reach that dialog for the other quests.

In some cases, that dialog-that's-not-progression is even necessary to continue a quest (like supplying replacement materials or refreshing a buff so you can make another attempt at an Ixal craft). In other cases, that extra dialog provides the story of the quest. (One whole tier of the Ixal dailies sent you to Fyrbryda to collect items she needs in exchange for letting you use her crafting facilities. It's only if you talk to her again afterwards that she goes into an explanation of why she needed those items and how they helped her and others.)

It's frustrating to not be able to get to that dialog without taking another quest first. It can even be frustrating just being locked out of small talk if an NPC has a quest we don't want to take (or advance) yet.

I'd really like that selection dialog to always come up before a quest window or quest dialog. If what I want is to take the next quest, then I'll select it. But give me the option to choose other dialog as well whenever there is any.

for some reason, very few are interested in this... quite strange. well, this is an MMORPG, and the vast majority of people only care about end-game. a shame that, but oh wells.

Welp...I'm surprised they left it that way for so long, I tried a search and it entirely missed that one because it was so far back.

Anyone reading this that actually cares about it: Please pop a reply in just to try and get SquareEnix to look at it, I'm pretty sure this option is already half implemented since it shows up for NPC's with two quests available, so just getting someone's attention might be enough to get it done.

@Niwashi and @BLaCKnBLu3B3RRY: Thanks so much for the link and still being dedicated to this. Glad to know for sure I'm not the only person so weirded out by it =w=

i like to see what every NPC has to say. this is Final Fantasy, and that has ALWAYS been a thing... dialogue. hell, in most games the NPC's have a rather large amount of things to say for checking multiple times.

if you run around the settlements as you first arrive you can see what they all have to say. you can pretty much guess they are going to have a side-quest. however, what they say as you accept the quest is damn near identical to what they would have said before they themselves had the quest to actually give. nothing really lost there.

but there are indeed other situations as already pointed out here. you have multiple quests going to the NPC for a turn-in. so like... say you have 3 quests total. you hand-in one and then talk to the NPC again. sometimes the NPC will have something relevant to say about the quest you just did. now, you have 2 quests left and you turn-in another one. thing here is that after that, you won't be able to check if that NPC has anything to say that is relevant to your just handed-in quest. it will go directly to hand-in your 3rd quest, completely skipping some (what is assumed to be there anyhow) would-be dialogue.

granted... many would consider these things insignificant, but i would wager those people forget the title on this game. MMORPG or not, dialogue is there for reading... can't read it if it is completely bypassed.
