Suggestion to combat Mentors intentionally inviting RMT Advertisers

With RMT Advertisers being invited into Novice Network often on some servers one cannot help but think a Mentor is doing it intentionally. However, we cannot prove this nor have any idea who it could be, which means we don't really have a strong enough case to present to Square Enix via reporting. Therefore, I propose the following change:

Whenever a Mentor invites someone into the Novice Network, and that person accepts the invitation, other Mentors could have a message appear in the chat log indicating that person joined and who invited them. Example: Jane Doe has joined the network thanks to John Doe.

Why should Mentors see such a message? Because if Jane Doe turns out to be an RMT advertiser, and John Doe is repeatedly re-inviting Jane Doe, then we know who the Mentor inviting that trash into the Novice Network is and not only can we report them for it but also kick them out of the Network.

Why am I suggesting this in the first place? Because it is very much possible RMT Advertisers are using accounts with a Mentor on it to advertise in Novice Network, and it should and can be stopped!

Any RMT bot I've seen in NN has a name that looks like a player name, unlike the ones that look like someone just hit a few random keys. I highly doubt RMT is being invited on purpose with the knowledge they are actually RMT.

That is why I believe they are invited by accident too, but the frequency at which they get invited lately, at least on my server, is suspicious. It could very well be a cover to throw suspicion off too...

I think the menu options for Add to Blacklist and Invite to Novice Network are right next to each other. Accidents definitely do happen. Can't personally speak on your case, but uncomfortable close menu options are a thing.

Oh I asked sissy to check:

that is the mentor menu when right clicking a name in novice network, I assume it be the same but leaving out "kick from novice network" when trying to invite someone. Can't have a change that would easily out and shame someone, then you will likely lead to even lower invites to it then now.

I actually don't bother blacklisting them unless I am going to be where they are spamming say channel for a bit, and then I remove them later since keeping them blacklisted only ends up wasting space on that list. The only thing I do in response to their spam is report them.

As for when they get into Novice Network, they advertise once and leave each time.

Thought so, see you are missing the point, missing the big picture and only requesting something based on what is most convenient to you and to your server. The point aesteval was making is that someone can make the mistake of inviting them, instead of blacklisting. With your proposed change, this would lead to kick abuse on people simply making a mistake. Has nothing to do what you do to deal with RMT.

And again, my idea gets around that, sure you might not be able give them the 30 min block (and this is pointless to the real end goal anyway, and that is getting rid of the RMT bots) We can propose a right click function of kick and block from the novice network due to RMT (bring up a warning message for this, that the GM will come after you if you abuse it) and make it streamline to having these bots reported and taken care of.

The fact that you don't blacklist is not relevant. The fact that some people do and the location of both options is relevant - it provides a readily available example of how they're invited accidentally.

No, the idea behind this is name and shame when it is a higher chance people do not know better.

You want a change to excuse kick abuse, no. I am also disagreeing in supporting a change just because of an issue that exists on your server, mine does not have this issue, all bots have random letters for names, and there is never rmt advertising on the network.

If this is really a problem, have better ideas? like maybe enacting a RMT kick option for leafs that remove them for longer and auto reports them to gms?

Balmung doesn't have the issues because nobody can make the bots to get the sprouts.

It is a problem on other servers. I got shoved in on Mateus and got to see it. It's not fun.
