What is your view on RP or ERP and why is it so taboo within the community?

If you are talking about ERP, then absolutely. Anything lewd or inappropriate, regardless of if it is RP or not, should be kept to private channels.
If you are talking about normal RP, then it has already been gone over multiple times in this thread that RPers are breaking no rules and doing nothing wrong when using public channels.

While I can't agree with Naunet's sentiment, I do understand that having someone refer to your preferred aspect of the game as <expletive> and tell you that you shouldn't be allowed to do it in public can make it feel like you are being antagonized.

It shows it does a lot to aome people, and I dont think even whem EBing someone , it should matter someone real gender. The character's gender is enough if we follow your logic.

If you want a relationship out of the other player then yeah it would be needed since not all people are attracted to both genders. With respect with you comment about not wanting to be treat it differently. Well in MMOs it is noticeable that female characters will be treat differently by guys. It is not a problem with girls. They will continue seeing you the same. It is mostly just a great number of guys that has this particular problem (because they want to fit in and will do what others do, actually are like that, or just do it for the laughs)

RP will cause many ppl to cringe cuz of the minority RPers screwing other people lives. It is the same as hardcore players and the raiding system.

Another bad experience with RPers. I queued for DF to do my dailies. They were all happy and greet so did I, but they were all friends and from the same server (which I didn't know till way later). They started to have a lot of text and emotes with every skills they did and even talked how they were feeling as we were going in. we didn't even get to the first boss and they killed us 5 times because the healer was very scared and was telling to their group to get out of the dungeon (roleplaying of course) and one of the DPS was "always ready" to go forward and be the brave one aka meaning going ahead of me - the tank- and pulling everything (this was my first time in the dungeon....) and the other DPS was "new" to this new job so he was "still learning his new skills" again RPing all this. I got super annoyed, and I am sorry to say that I got to type in caps and tell them how frustrating I was. My first experience in the dungeon was irritating thanks to their damn idea of making a party of three people and queue together. I told them that I would leave at least they stopped the roleplaying. I didn't sign for their amusement. After that they went quiet and stopped their little game and we finished the dungeon really fast.

In which case...yes, they should keep it out of public channels as it is interfering with the enjoyment of the game for another player.

I love roleplay! I've found most people who don't roleplay are simply indifferent to it. There are those that hate it though.

In those cases, for roleplay in general, it's the hierarchy of loserdom. I mean sure they play catpeople, weird elves, and creepy but adorable child-like races in one of the most anime mmo's ever, but at least they don't roleplay!

ERP on the other hand is more of the hierarchy, but with added hate from roleplayers. "Well I rp but I don't erp!" Honestly though, there's nothing wrong with either so long as ERP is kept private and we rpers know when it's appropriate to roleplay. (IE not in a dungeon. I'M LOOKING AT YOU BARD WHO DIDN'T USE SONGS WHEN A ARMY's PAEON WOULD HAVE BEEN USEFUL AF) *coughs* excuse me.

But yes roleplay is fun and there's nothing wrong with it. Honestly though, ffxiv has a much more open minded community in regards to both roleplay and erp as far as I've seen.

That being said, I think my post on the second page of the thread already covered that I don't think it's appropriate for RPers to disturb dungeon runs with their RP by making themselves a nuisance and burden to people randomly assigned to them in the DF. In all honesty, I've never actually seen this type of thing before in the 1,500ish dungeons I've run in this game (and would certainly never do it myself) but people keep bringing it up so there must be someone out there stirring up trouble.

While it can be argued that a party chat is a private channel, it can also be argued it's public when you use DF and get a random person who is not part of your group joining into the party.

As for your never seeing it in your "1,500ish dungeons", it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I rarely, if ever, get a bad DF group(and that's in my over 2,000 dungeon/trial runs). Does that mean they don't happen though others keep bringing it up? No, it just means I haven't experienced it to the state that others have.
