What is your view on RP or ERP and why is it so taboo within the community?

You can RP and eRP as much you want. I have a problem when you do it publicly and makes me cringe so hard.
Keep that shit to your RP LS/FC and keep it from /say/shout/yell and/or any other public chat

If you are talking about ERP, then absolutely. Anything lewd or inappropriate, regardless of if it is RP or not, should be kept to private channels.
If you are talking about normal RP, then it has already been gone over multiple times in this thread that RPers are breaking no rules and doing nothing wrong when using public channels.

While I can't agree with Naunet's sentiment, I do understand that having someone refer to your preferred aspect of the game as <expletive> and tell you that you shouldn't be allowed to do it in public can make it feel like you are being antagonized.
