What is your view on RP or ERP and why is it so taboo within the community?

I disagree. People can RP wherever they please in public zones using /say as long as it's not explicit. It doesn't matter what server it is.

I feel like you do have to take server into account. A lot of people (myself included) tend to go for smaller servers because they tend to be more peaceful and quiet enough that you don't have to automatically block out public chat channels and shout chats like you do in more crowded servers. Even if you take to the sidelines/lurk its nice to be able to see the community interact/interact without a flood of messages every 2 seconds. I know a certain poster in this thread has been getting alot of flack for their views but you have to realize the server he's on (Mateus) was formerly the least populated server, even smaller than my own. Imagine if you lived in a small quiet neighborhood and a town founded, run, and populated by theater actors who practiced their lines openly and randomly moved in to your neighborhood. If you were the type that while appreciating theater also truly enjoyed the peace and quiet (maybe even moved there specifically for the peace and quiet) and had these people funneled into your neighborhood I'm sure you would also be slightly irked. Mateus up until recently was that small quiet neighborhood and people being funneled in from Balmung is basically the equivalent of a theater troupe moving into your neighborhood. He's not the only one who isn't particularly happy about the shift in server atmosphere. I have a friend who actually transferred FROM Balmung to Mateus to get away from the population and the roleplaying not even a month before Mateus became another designated rp server. Needless to say he's not too happy with it.

But if it's on an server, that is not known for RP then it should be kept to tells/linkshells/company chats and not the regular zone/say chat.

This argument might, might hold water if FF14 had dedicated RP servers. As it is, all the FF14 servers are for RP because none of them are flagged as such. Even in games that do have servers set aside specifically for RP, saying that people are not allowed to RP in an MMORPG just because you don't want to see it is both self-centered and absurd.

You can report someone for anything you darn well feel like. I can report you because I think your purple and orange hat clashes horribly and is a fashion crime, but it doesn't mean that the GMs won't laugh in my face about it and simply ignore me. All you are doing is throwing a tantrum that does nothing productive but wastes the valuable time and resources of a system that already is overloaded with actual problems that need GM attention.

Change happens. Is it a shame for people who want quiet when their server gets a population boost? Yes. Does moving somewhere for quiet automatically entitle them to complete control over what other people do in their environment or dictate how many people are allowed to move there as well? Absolutely not. Just because someone wants something a certain way does not mean that they can bend the world around them to fit their preferences and punish people who have broken no rules except to be doing something that they merely dislike. Spam bots are not reportable because they fill up the chat logs, they are reportable because they advertise RMTs that break the ToS. There is nothing in the ToS against RPing. In fact, with the addition of RP tags, SE is actually doing more to support RP than they have since the game launched.
