What is your view on RP or ERP and why is it so taboo within the community?

I've seen RP but very rarely so on Hyperion. I don't doubt its there though, with FC's like Lust around and Tepe's FC. Never really indulged it but I'm sure its fun. I don't think there's anything wrong with it. People just playing how they want to play game and who is in the right to tell them to do otherwise.

Uhm, hm. As far as ERP. I don't think people should put it into say unless they are in a private home or something. Also if someone says no, its probably not in the best interest to pursue. It's like a certain religion coming to your door everyday even though you said no thanks. There's boundries there and its best to just go about it with the consent of others or be seen as a minor annoyance throughout the day.

But RP should be left to do as they please. In say or whatever. If you don't like it black list or move on.

To me I've just thought of some RPers like NPCS about to do an event or something. Like a FATE about to spawn. I either listen or just move on because its that simple. lol

Let me preface what i'm about to say with, I do not ERP and have never done so. However you argument for the T rating awarded by PEGI and ESRB wouldn't really apply to this situation would it? Those ratings usually include the caveat of "Online interactions not rated by ESRB" or some form of that.

More on the point of OP's original question, I prefer a stance of live and let live. Let the ERPers do their thing behind closed doors, it isn't hurting anyone.

Nothing wrong with roleplay. Not for me, but I don't see the issue with it.

ERP on the other hand being out in the open is very tacky and inconsiderate of others. Keep it private between you and your partner at the time and if done so in this way I see no problem with it.

I know in Phoenix some users with the RP sign, but i never actually saw a roleplaying scene anywere in the world.

I know what you mean, and i support that ERP should be done (if it is done) in a private channel and place. The problem with that rule is that, like any other social rule, it can be interpreted in a lot of ways. Also, you cannot use a real life example in a game, you cannot report someone because he/she is naked in Limsa Lominsa, for example (and i dont want to point out some users using emotes in a 'curious way').

About the RP... I have no problem with it, in fact i am a D&D board player, i also have RP on some games like NWN back in the day where those servers were full of people. I dont see where is the harm on giving more life to the cities with the imagination of the players.

Reasonable person would find that offensive. Would you perform a lewd act infront of a 13 year old child? No, you would find that wrong. The fact that in my state a man ran through the ball field naked. He was put on sex offender list after that.

*Shrug* To each their own, they should know the person in question they are doing this with. Again, I do not participate in ERP or condone it in public places. However, I am loathe to stick my nose into other people's business when they are doing it behind closed doors and / or in private channels. Live and let live.

The T rating assigned applies only to the game content not online interactions between players. Excessive use of profanity; public ERP and etc are handled by a GM's discretion. This isn't unique to FFXIV, but all online games because it's literally impossible to manage how players interact on a constant basis. Regardless, GMs turn a blind eye to many things, provided they aren't used to harass others. This is why parses and reshade aren't immediately flagged.
