Depends on the person at the keyboard. To some it's nothing more than a creative writing exercise, to others it's simply interactive porn.
I don't personally care for it either way, but I definitely have more respect for the former than the latter.

For a lot of our guests, it's definitely interactive porn, but for me it's typically more often than not a creative writing exercise. Additionally, we're often trying to get guests and members to flex beyond the simple sexy talk. We want characters, themes, story, progression! Sure ERP is a foot in the door, but it can, and often is so much more than that if you want it to be. In my years and years of ERPing, I can only remember maybe twice that I used it as a form of gratification. Typically, a lot of themes are things that I have zero interest in sexually anyways. Though hidden in the nuggets of arousal are very interesting themes.
Again, it is what you make of it. Though I always thought that ERP as a secondary narrative to a greater story made the entire narrative better for it. Like look at even media, they often use explicit content as a means of progressing the stories, or symbolizing a characters status or emotional processes. I can't count the amount of times they used physical pleasure as a form of writing in things like Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, or other stories.

I don't agree with you. For certain scenarios sure, but those are not that common and more often than not you can skip them without any real consequence to the plot. Also, in my own experience since Neverwinter times, people use it as an outlet to have some cyber sex (nothing wrong with it) and is described in a totally unnatural way so you can tell that the person doesn't have any real experience so it's even more jarring and uninteresting (like 50 shadows of something).
Today in a lot of shows the sex scenes don't add anything to the plot and are there to lure people to watch it, good recent examples are GoT or Spartaco. A few erotic scenes in those shows are really necessary.
If we talk only about RP, and the reason I stopped doing it after my own experiences with Neverwinter, without a DM setting the rules and keeping everyone in check it will turn into an ego fest full of Mery Sues (or the other extreme, full of inconsequential characters) that ignore the world lore and rules left and right.

I mean it's fine if you don't agree, I'm more than aware that it's not everyone's cup of tea. I just don't believe it needs to be taken as a form of sexting, rather apart of a greater narrative. Though I'm not blind to the fact that people turn it into something far more, erm... creepy.

rp is fine, erp is kinda pointless since there's other platforms you can satisfy your, er, "needs" with, ff14 isn't a sex simulator, not should be treated as such. and tbh that sort of thing should be a report-able offence in my opinion
I was never under the impression that RP was considered "taboo", and it's kind of stupid to think that it is.
...Why should it be a bannable offense to be doing things that's privately done (hopefully, anyway) between people? Not everyone ERPs just for the sake of getting off to it.

if it's a bannable offence it will encourage more people to do it privately, since it won't be reported if it's amongst themselves, and would only get reported if they decided to erp in public areas, as it's no secret that some people do erp in public chat/areas

Definitely agree with that. I've been ERPing for at least 4 years at this point, never been reported. Why? Because it's among friends and closed circles. Never bring it up where it's not welcome, ever. If people don't want to engage in it, it's not my place to force them in a position where they have to.
