If you use an item UNDER the optimal level, is it still better than using an item a few levels behind?

Right now on my server the cheapest lv8 LNC arm is 95k... I have a lv35 green from some random nm, was wondering how much I am losing by using this, or if it's better to use my starting level 1. Similar issues on my arc, mrd, and cnj.

Is there a way to tell how much you are losing?

Yes, equip it.
After equipping it, it says something like "74-70" on the weapon above your rank (which results in 4)
and something like "12" on the weapon below your rank.

12 is better than 4, so..usually the lower one is better unless you are VERY close to the optimal rank (1-2 ranks below).

There is currently no way to see the stats you are losing other than equipping both and comparing.

In the past, optimal level stats were pretty scaled up to the correct level, but now it is very restrictive, ie you will get absolutely no stats until about two levels below, and even then a level 8 weapon will be better than a level 35 for say, a 33 Lancer.

People are also very silly with the markets. Try looking up recipes at mooglebox.com and you may find the ingredients total 1/10th of the market price, to have a friend help you out.

I find it hard to believe that a Bronze Spear is 95k. Find a Carpenter to make it... or even make it yourself, wouldn't take too long to take carpentry to 8.

You could also try the bone harpoon or feathered harpoon. 95k seems very very steep.

You can make a bronze spear at level 1 Carpenter, too. You just need to buy the materials and a saw, which you can get from the NPCs in the adventurer's guild. Here is a list of materials and click around and you can find out where you can get them.

thats completely insane.... have a crafter make one for you! Join a good linkshell, and i'm sure one of the members will make it for ya free of charge.

better of always wielding something around you're own level i stuck with my level 1 lanc till 16 then replaced it for 1 for 20K
