Girlfriend will have nothing to do with video games unless it's Wii or Xbox Kinnect. BUT at least this gf doesn't complain when I play like the last two.

As with everything, there's bound to be differing opinions. Personally, it's been a great experience so far. I think they can benefit from doing something like learning party dynamics, where each person has a job, and the group rely's on them to do that job, or else everyone fails. That alone can apply to group projects in school quite easily. Sure there's a chance of encountering situations that might be difficult to explain, but you encounter the same thing outside the home as well, be it at the mall, supermarket, or just about anywhere you go. And every solution doesn't work for everyone, but this is working quite well for us.

    Great thread Nasomi.

I do not play with family, but I wish I did...however I can confess that mmo's specifically helped me and my RL friends stick together when we all went our seperate ways after high school. For years throughout college when we were apart we always played an MMO together. Kept us close, kept us together, and when we saw each other once a year during time off from school it was like we had never left (except maybe one was fatter and the other had longer hair etc... lol) but this virtual world serves a lot of purpose and a lot of memories for a lot of people.

Cheers to everyone with these great experiences!

    Hi Nasomi,

That's great that your kids wanna play. My daughters were 9 & 12 when we began playing FFXI. We played for years and had many fun and memorable experiences. Thank goodness for obscenity filters and a Family Friendly G-rated LS (although they heard me utter many a foul word, esp. after losing to Maat for the 5th time).

My eldest is 21 now. She still plays video games but she does not like XIV so I am left to roam Eorzea alone. ;>(

The 18 yr old is off at college learning to be a pastry chef. I made all our food in XI (rollenberry pies were a favorite) so maybe that helped inspire her? lol

I hope you have fun and make many happy memories. I know we did. ;>)

Just remember, it was only 4-5 years ago you were 8-9. Once you get a few years older, you'll learn that it's beneficial to be nice to other people.^^

And besides the profanity filter is there for a reason.

All im saying is there is no way i would let my kids play. I rather not let them read what comes out of some people sometimes.
