    QoL megathread, let's condense a few things down

    I have searched the internet, reddit and these forums to compile a list of QoL suggestions. So we can try to get away from 10 threads about the same thing.

    Please let me know if you think anything should be added and I will try my best to keep the list updated but cannot guarantee everything will make it depending on the amount of responses.

    But!

    please refrain from debating the topics presented. I don't want to have to go thru 20 pages of "why I think this is bad/good" to keep the list updated. Take that to a separate thread if you feel so strongly about something, please.

    And if you agree with someone's suggestion, just "like" the post instead of making a new one saying the same thing please, easier for me to keep organized!

    (some of the commentary is not mine, I copy/pasted some comments I thought were funny, others I might have missed editing)


    Housing

    1 personal + 1 fc house per server per account

    House sharing for chars on the same account. All characters on a single account should have access to housing purchased by a char on that account.

    Ward restricted aesthetics. All houses and interiors should be usable by all wards. With the introduction of workshop housing exteriors having ward restrictions make no sense. This includes things like awnings, chimneys, fencing and such too!

    NPCs, I personally like the mender, material supplier, etc. being NPC because I have a mansion and I can use them to make my house feel more alive. But ppl with small houses or who don’t want actual NPCs for w/e reason should be able to have a small wall item they can just click on instead. I know when I just had a cottage, I loathed having to put NPCs in.

    Make some items interior/exterior. Like statuary and such. I would love to have the Crystal Tower in my yard and a carby bench inside my house, for instance.

    New, non-cutesy (in horrifying in the case of the Piasa) housing exteriors. I mean keep making that cutesy ones, but please can we get some move variation in traditional house forms too? Especially if you are strictly against letting go of Ward restricted exteriors.

    Instanced housing in addition to wards. At least larger apartments or varying apartment sizes. And if nothing else at least make an apt the same yalmage as a small house instead of a Roe’s shoe closet.

    Give us 8 garden plots that don’t have that awful scarecrow.

    Allow warping to and from your house without an aetheryte node. Or make the mailbox and aetheryte not count toward the item placement cap.

    Give us access to our balcony without having to place furniture and play a jumping game. There is a door leading out to it after all…

    More interior doors please.

    Lift limits off items such as primal trophies.

    Let us make our houses our homepoints.

    Give us lighting options that are not connected to a chandelier or give chandeliers lighting options. The yellow, red and blue light can sometimes be jarring. Very few have white light and most of them have that awful yellow hue.

    Non-interactive versions of housing items like food

    Tend-All Garden option

    Crafting

    A universal crafter bag or at least a universal bag to share items/gil between chars on the same account would be wonderful.

    Or just allow us to craft by using items stored on our retainers instead of having to shuffle them to and from our inventory.

    Gathering

    Remove the speed debuff when hidden

    A “tackle box” to keep bait in so it does not take up inventory space or reduced amount of/or no bait requirements.

    New way to get shards, similar to the ways to get bulk crystals/clusters

    Jobs

    Make pet jobs actual pet jobs. Give us more control over our pets and make the pet do the bulk of the heavy lifting. A smn should be about managing a summon, not cast it and forget it.

    Either give all jobs directional requirements or none. They just make a job needlessly complicated.

    Separate Tomestones by job type. The best part of the FFXIV job system is the ability to level all jobs, but what stinks about it is that gear becomes outdated so fast you can only gear maybe 2. Separate tomestone by job type, tank, heal, ranged, mage, melee. Keep the caps if you must but give us a lil more flexibility. Just make it drop depending on what job you run as. So like if you finish a dungeon on whm you get, Tomestone of Creation: healer

    Autoset pets not to attack if player is mounted.

    Make gauges more meaningful for all jobs since some have little use.

    Free Company

    Get rid of workshop restrictions, at least on older recipes and especially on small things like wheels.

    Offer some sort of in-game FC recruitment system. A market board for all your FC needs, for instance.

    Allow us to blist ppl from an FC not just personally so people cannot be reinvited by those who don’t know better, esp if they change the name.

    Don’t allow people with promotion abilities to promote above their own rank. Officers should be able to promote someone but not to FC master rank.

    More company chest space.

    Glamour

    Outside of JSE, the restrictions should be lifted off gear, including gender locks. I know a tank in a mage robe makes no sense, but neither does one in a bikini or vegas style bunny outfit.

    Dyes, multiple dyes per article or just dying a piece. I hate it when I dye something multicolored blue and it turns the whole thing into various shades of blue. It would be wonderful to have the main piece blue and have the option to leave the trim red or dye the trim.

    Attach glamour to the job crystal or inventory set not the individual garment.

    Give us a glamour log to reduce inventory stress

    Let us have bare feet.

    Highlander ladies should be able to unball their hands and Miquote males to unfurl their fingers

    Allow face items like glasses to be worn with hats and helmets

    More facial hair options and removal of race specific hair styles

    Eyebrows for Highlander males.

    Battle

    Our own dots and debuffs should be first on the list since in some instances there are so many on a boss that we don’t see ours at all so we have no idea when we should reset them.

    Longer debuffs/buffs. Setting Twin Snakes every 15 seconds, for instance, is annoying. Just let us set it and forget it, like nins poisons or something.

    When tab targeting, prioritize mobs on our enemy list instead of picking up every mob in our field of vision or things that are off to the side and not even displayed.

    Allow undersized parties on 24 man raids.

    Allow for randomized parties on floors 100+ in Palace of the Dead

    Remove needless 2nd "leave" prompt from PVP

    Remove Benediction lag

    Savage content chest # messages.

    Let party know who does not meet requirements for entry to a duty.

    Misc

    Allow quest and triple triad markers to be hidden. Some people don’t like questing nor do they want bubbles above everyone’s heads.

    Or allow quests X levels below your current level to be hidden. Have the option to always show MSQ and blue bubbles

    Remove my name from someone’s friends list when I remove theirs from mine.

    Allow blacklisting while in a dungeon or the ability to just ‘mute’ certain players. This would silence a ton of trolls and RP players who insist on using /p /sh or /s instead of /echo on every one of their abilities.

    Do not default to “No” on pop up commands for things like opening doors or entering housing. Or allow the option to default to “Yes”

    Even out retainer ventures. DoW/M retainers should be able to bring back 30 of an item like DoL can instead of 10.

    Bring back nodes to allow us to move quicker around the overworld, but use them sparingly

    "repair all" option in addition to just categories

    retain Gpose settings

    Allow for the option for floor targets spells to target the players current target.

    Back up local settings, including hud and allow all characters on an account access to these settings, including keybinds and HUD

    Lord of Vermillion needs completely reworked

    Primal/Raid, FATE, relic, etc., tokens, should be key items or currency not actual items we keep in our inventory

    The ability to mail items to the characters on the same account ail items between characters

    Remove Market Board limitations. Allow people to buy only the amount they need instead of entire stacks

    An in-game calendar for FC

    Stat filter on MB searches

    Separate Aquarium fish on MB

    "Remove All" option on blacklist

    On the tomestone thing. I'd be happy if they'd just put the cap each week at 900 instead of 450. I almost capped creation yesterday just doing omega normal for weekly drops. 450 was fine in the beginning of ARR but we've added 6 jobs since then. (I'm counting ninja because it was patched in later and not included initially with ARR)

    On omega normal and also back in alex normal. The token system was a good idea but having a different token per gear piece and in different quantities makes looting the raids more annoying than it needs to be and causes additional inventory clutter. The normal modes of these are supposed to be raids for the casual player. We could simplify this by just having a single token drop used on all gear pieces and just have a quantity descrepency depending on which piece it is. Overall it will still be the same number of tokens but the process will be streamlined a bit. Savage can stay as it is currently

    I'm not going to make excuses for SE, but I think a lot of these system-focused QoL issues are tied to old code that can't be efficiently updated. 1.0 was a mess for many reasons, spaghetti code and a deficient codebase being two of the big "invisible" issues (going by the excellent NoClip documentary). These are not simple or cheap problems to fix. An MMO is constantly using devs for content generation and general upkeep in addition to planning ahead and testing changes. The resource burden is high and you have only so many bodies you can spare at a given time. The guts of the game weren't future-proofed well and now that XIV is not at "do or die" levels of pressure everyone (especially the devs!) are starting to feel the shortcomings. A back-end overhaul would be necessary, but that sort of thing isn't appreciated by players much. We're getting lots of content on a regular schedule already so the only visible benefits would come much, much later down the line... at the expense of the content we're used seeing now.

    I would love to see a lot of these changes to go through, especially improvements to pet AI and housing. But I know just how hard it can be to make magic happen when you're dealing with less than stellar tools.

    Glamour book is a huge one.

    As an eyepatch wearer, the ability to toggle from left eye to right using visor.

    The ability to put face items (eyepatch, glasses, masks, bandannas, etc.) on the earring and/or necklace slot, so we can have face items at the same time as helmets or hats.

    Let us name our minions

    The ability to reorganize all our retainers and our inventory at the same time.

    The ability to trade items from inventory or retainer to armory and vice versa.

    Add more facial hair and faces to each race.

    Share all hairstyles.

    Add more body sliders.

    I disagree with telling them we want JSE to be exempt from a lifting of glamour restrictions as that's a very divisive element of what is otherwise a very good suggestion.     They have also very specifically said adding multiple dye effects on an item is impossible on current hardware (EU Fan Fest, straight from Yoshida). It would be a major update after dropping 32-bit PCs etc, so we're not going to be seeing that in 4.x.

    With glamour on the job crystal, I'd rather it was saved to the gearset slot so you can have multiple glamours per job as well as multiple glamours per physical gear; what I mean is that I agree with the point, just think the wording should be less prescriptive as there might be better ways. Also, crafters don't have crystals.

    Anyway, additions:

    Can we add hiding Triple Triad icons on the map?
    If Repair All isn't possible, then an option to automatically advance between the Repair tabs after repairing would save some time. Or just have Repair All but make it take a couple of seconds to process if needed.
    The new extra prompt on leaving Frontline/Feast is both annoying and confusingly worded (abandon a match). It's unnecessary when there's a Leave button on the same screen and there's no reason to stay, so it should be removed.
    Allow us to retain gpose settings (especially lighting; my character has dark skin so I always like to remove the red tones from the light effects every time I use gpose or he looks weird).
    An option on the login page to back local settings up to the server before login, to help people who play on consoles or switch between PC/console.
    An option for all floor-targeted spells to default to casting on the target instead of needing to use a macro to have this effect (this would be an accessibility option for people who can't easily use a mouse or analogue controls).
    Allow custom training matches in The Feast without needing double the number of people e.g. if I want to train with three friends, let us have a custom 2v2 or 3v1 game instead of needing to recruit two full teams.
    Please look at Benediction lag (and other skills with excessively long animation lag) especially now it's been selected as WHM's only instant heal in the new PVP system and also consumes all lilies; the amount of punishment caused by the lag is disproportionate, especially given ping differences.
    Please let us enter all old content undersized (e.g. 24-man raids), with a popup advising that clearing may be impossible if necessary. It would be fun for gpose purposes and I don't mind impossible content.

    Also, everything in my signature, especially the undersized request which has to be one of the easiest and most fun options they could possibly add for small groups and would add a ton of replay value.

    Housing - Non-interactive versions of food items. Using the same models as those are already in the game.
    large cakes, tea sets, luncheon sets, fruit, drinks etc.
    - (less important, but would still be nice to have) Non-interactive versions of other furniture items such as the allagan modules, incensory or airship models.
    - An indication on furniture recipes that the item is interactive (hand symbol perhaps)

    This would help prevent furniture not displaying correctly when more than 39 interactive items are in the house (it's not hard to go over).

    - Let us choose to show/hide the arrows on wall pictures. It's distracting to walk into my house and see a bunch of arrows. If I want to change a painting, I should be able to do it from the housing menu
    - Allow apartment owners to have their own little courtyard space for outdoor-only items.

    Battle

    - I like how the system is moving toward not punishing players for missing a positional but rather improving their gauge if they hit it (at least Samurai does this, not sure about other classes). If it isn't already, all classes should take this into consideration.
    - Not every class needs a gauge. Or if every class has a gauge - at least make it meaningful and worthwhile to fill it. For example, many classes can execute some larger attack but others, like Paladin, gets no real advantage over filling the gauge.
    Gold Saucer
    - Please rework the abomination that is Lord of Verminion into an actual pet battle game. LoV is horrendous for controller users.
    - Offer more rewards and not just cute/funny things like the cactuar weapons. Those are fine too, but let us have some variety!

    PVP
    - Please look into the server lag for Cover and Hallowed Ground. I'm sure there are other spells affected by this too. When I cast cover and a teammate dies anyway, or Hallowed Ground and I die anyway, the cast is still used up, so obviously the server "got the memo" but the player character didn't.
    - Please consider making old Feast rewards obtainable by other players. Either through kills or assists like the minions are. No other system in this game uses both exclusive AND seasonal items reserved for a fraction of a percentage of the player base. It's ridiculous how restrictive it is - especially considering how well-known it is that many PVP users use third-party software to call out when a burst is happening, or win-trade their way to the top. Some are good enough to stand on their own merits, but others knowingly and blatantly cheat. See also: frontline bots.

    Palace of the Dead
    - Please allow us to queue with random players beyond the 100th floor. It's crazy, even cross-server, to try and find 3 other people who can carve out the same time to progress with you regularly.

    Hunts
    - Please consider making the Centurio tiger obtainable with Centurio seals and not tied to an extreme number of hunts.

    The two biggest things I would like is the ability to mail things between characters on the same account and the ability to buy a specific number of an item off the market board. So if everything is up in stacks of 99 or more you can get that one or two you need for a craft or turn in.

    Another request would be adding another way to get shards to make farming them a bit less obnoxious. Even if it was just adding ephemeral nodes that reduced into large amounts of shards to ARR areas that would be helpful.
