Should I do Relic Weapon Quests

Are they worth it. They are quite involved with many things you have to accomplish. You get a level 80 weapon I believe. Thing is won't I aquire higher level weapons quite easily down the road in Heavensward and Stormblood.

Don't bother with the relic quests.
They are just fancy glamour by now.
You will get better gear just by doing the MSQ.

As mentioned above they are just glamour by now, however if you're planning on doing the level 60 relic (glamour as well), you could trade it in and skip the first step of that quest, after having gotten your old relic to zeta. But with the crystal drop rate increased, this isn't even necessary either.

Now if you are somebody that's an over archiver and just want the title and experiment the old ARR game as we did back in day, even tho everything has been buffed and changed, then yes you could do it. Otherwise I would say, try to get to were you want to be, if it's lvl 60 or 70 and start from there. We will soon the level 70 relics introduced, and if you don't wanna rage quit before that, take my advice and skip the step. Relics are always very grindy, and even tho they have been nerfed to the ground, you can do other things down the road with all the time and tomes you would need to invest, to even get to the last steps of the final relic weapon.

HW MSQ gives out ilvl 115 HQ weapons, or you can get the 120 poetics weapon and upgrade it to ilvl 130. The first HW dungeon drops ilvl 130 weapons as well. Either way, the zeta or what we call the old ARR relic isn't worth it at all, if we just base it on the ilvl and stats.

Edit: Not to mention that every Job has it's own weapon, meaning that since you stated prior, you wanted to keep your smn/sch geared, you would have to do every step of the quests and every weapon twice because you can't just get sch and then automatically get SMN's weapon. By the time you would finish that, we might be in the next expansion 5.0 lol

The only possible way to make the relic a viable weapon choice is to not register any expansions, leaving you at the base 50 level cap. By doing so, the weapon stays "useful" until you've finished it. This takes a very long time and lots of dedication, and many many runs of various duties. If you were to focus solely on the relic, with expansions registered, I can only imagine you'd pick up a few levels, before even starting HW content. I speak from experience. I've only just finished my relic, after at least a couple months now of stalling at the end of ARR.

In reality, you could easily make/join farm parties for Leviathan/Ramuh/Shiva Extremes, which drop i95/i100/i110 weapons, respectively. These will outclass the relic until quite a few steps in. The 2.x MSQ leading up to HW grants you i110 gear by the end of it. Poetics i120/i130 have already been mentioned. More troublesome, but probably still easier than the relic, you could try to make/join a farm party for the Coils of Bahamut. Turns 5/9/14 drop i95/i115/i135 weapons, respectively. That final i135 from the last turn in the Final Coil is effectively on par with the finished relic weapon, and you can almost definitely get it faster and easier than finishing the relic questline.

Long story short, I did it just because I actually wanted to do it. But even capped at 50 with no expansions, there are many ways to get equivalent gear for less trouble. And all of this is completely disregarding how quickly/easily you can get something just as good once you've started HW.

whether you want it or not there are 2 trials opened up by the first few relic quests. Doing the relic to the first purple stage will get those and a class specific title.
