    SMN 4.06 Changes

    I just read the SMN 4.06 changes and seriously only a 10 point increase on dot potency? (BioIII and MiasmaIII) Come on square just give us back the ability Sustain to keep our pets alive. Or rather increase the amount Physic does to pets. I know we have fast cast as role action but I would rather see this than a 10 potency dmg to dots. I was expecting something a bit better. Oh well here's hoping for it come 4.1.

    Is this really the best they could do? Are they truely that confused or oblivious to the current state of SMN? I expected a Ruin III buff and Devotion change but... 10 potency increase? Amazing!

    i dont SMN really, but ive seen alot of friends and randoms on the forums always ask for sustain and physick back.

    is the issue with SMN reallly with the pet dying? i thought it was more that SMN is punished too greatly for dying or that the rotation is too much to do for so little reward.


    sustain would just be a small QoL for not having to adjust your pet as much to ensure its survival, yeah?

    No. i did notice my pet taking more dmg.. but aoe healing ususally deal with the problem

    Yes, and multiple small group in dungeon like kugane absolutely destroys SMN.

    This hotfix was only done to put their DPS in line (or exceed with optimal play) with RDMs on single target. It's around a ~5% DPS increase compared to 4.05 SMN. It's a pretty big deal even though the class still does feel like crap for a lot of people.

    I do believe they stated they want job mechanical changes to occur in 4.1.

    They should have buffed Ruin 3 and 4 and the dots imo. Then the mechanical changes in 4.1 but Im convinced at this point that no one on the balance team actually plays SMN. SMN should do more dmg than Red Mage simply because its harder to play than RDM is.

    I'm tired of hoping for improvements on this raid tier. I fear my static will soon ask me to change to RDM.

    Im of the same mindset that something more complex should be better, however unfortunately that isn't this game. Instead they balance around provided DPS and provided Utility. Which is a valid argument for SMN doing more damage than RDM since RDM is very mobile, and has minimal quantity but very effective utility (might be wrong since I dont play the job) so I would hope a well played SMN could easily out pace a RDM in dps.

    It most likely will actually. Not by much. This buff will give around ~200DPS to the smns doing 4k DPS on single target. SMN was only 130 ~ 150 behind RDM on single target.

    The issue is that contagion is one of the strongest buffs in the game but no one runs caster comps so embolden wins. Caster comps will most likely never be a thing due to RDM being a caster that doesn't synergize with other casters. Around 20% of RDMs DPS is physical.
