The only difference between his X and XIV appearances is his horn, which is much bigger. It's extremely faithful to the original artwork otherwise.

The horn is my biggest issue. The colour/size just feels... ostentatious and kind of tacky.

Nope. In FFXIV, Ixion like Odin's horse, has very short stubby legs. In FFX they were much better proportioned. It does have the effect of making Ixion look like a fat pig. Also the horn in FFX is of a completely different shape.
