This is what I'm currently working in, but I could also argue if I have that gear from tomes, I have no reason to really run the dungeons anymore making the whole experience rough regardless
You probably more than anything just need to replace your weapon and your pre-70 accessories as they have no strength on them like the current ones. You'll struggle a little bit but it won't be as rough as it currently is. If you do all of your roulettes and an extra lvl 70 (Ala Mhigo since it's capped at 310) you'll have enough verity for a weapon.

The reason to run dungeons is entirely debated on what content you want to do. If you just want to clear the content once for story then yeah, there's no point in running them more than once. If you want to do raiding or extreme primals, then it'll be good to do them so your able to queue or get into party finder groups.

Your problem is definitely gear related, getting a Verity weapon and replacing your sub 70 accessories would be the first step ahead.

No materia on your gear, a weak main-hand weapon, and four green accessories. Just make a macro that says you're still gearing up and ask the dps to take it easy on you, Mao.

Tell them to use diversion + lucid dream.

If they refuse, let them die. Aggro is a shared responsibility.

I never had materia in my gear, have very bad luck with RNG to get gear(most of the time it wouldn't appear in the chests at all), and was in i270(exception being my relic at i275) until I got to 70 and did my class quest(now I have 3 pieces of i320, the rest at i310). VERY rarely did I lose agro, even to those that were 70, higher geared, and going full tilt. It's a matter of how you rotate your combo, how many times you flash/unleash/overpower, and if they are using Lucid/Diversion/etc.

I only have this problem with my friends who intentionally try to get enmity. For random dps I get in df, they typically do less damage than me. Last time I ran expert without a full pre-made I got a mnk who did 2k dps on trash pulls and 1k dps on the bosses in Temple of the Fist. .-.

If you're having trouble hitting the targets before the DPS, use Sprint to fash to the next pull before everyone else. Also I'm gonna go ahead and say this just in case... STOP TRYING TO PULL SHIT IN SWORD OATH/DELIVERANCE! Maybe this won't apply to you, but it will definitely apply to a bunch of moronic tanks I see out there.

Now I won't say I never have enmity issues, but there's an easy way to assess what's going on. If you're losing enmity to a group of enemies all at once, it means you aren't Flashing enough. If it's just 1 at a time though, it just means one of the DPS decided to focus something different than you. This happens regardless of what job they're playing, and you just gotta smack it with something (preferably your enmity attack) to get it back.

After some practice, you can usually tell which enemy you're about to lose enmity with based on how low its HP is and when the last time you hit it was.

Also, try doing big pulls to motivate the Red Mages to use their AoE attacks more. It's a lot easier to keep enmity from AoE attacks.

Could always rotate your rotation so each hit connects with a different target. Might not be the best for downing enemies fast, but helps maintain your enmity. I do that when I tank, and try to make it so the final hit is on a different target than the time I got to that skill last time. CoS as a PLD every time it is off CD also helps(marginally).

As many others have said, I do think it's a gear issue.

A few days after the 4.0 release, I decided to level up my dragoon (was lv 60 at the time). On my way to lv 61, I queued into a 50/60 dungeon and landed on aethero chemical research facility. My dragoon was wearing mostly ilvl 260 pieces, with two or three 250 pieces. The weapon was also 260. I landed with a warrior tank wearing all ilvl 200 pieces, and trash pulls were a nightmare for the poor lass. She was spamming overpower and the other dpser (bard, I believe) and I had to pull back quite a few times and wait for the tank to establish more enmity.

One thing I hate about many dps players is that they believe their sole purpose in life is to steal enmity from the tank. I've met a lot of them who do not switch targets if their enmity gets too high, or use their enmity-reduction skills (single-target encounters/bosses are fair game). They'll just keep wailing away at their target, even after they've ripped off enmity from the tank, and then blame the tank for losing enmity. Granted, it is the tank's job to not lose enmity. But when the dpser has a 40+ item level gap over the tank, and enmity-reduction skills collecting cob webs on their hot bar, that's a different story.
